What piece of equipment would you not purchase again?

My Apex Jr.

Should never had gone with the smaller, far less functional version of a great product.

I've wanted to buy the full-sized version since about 1 month after I bought it...

Current USA Orbit Marine LED Aquarium Light..

I have SPS and LPS with mine with no problem. I altered the preset programs over a period of time and everything is happy. My acro and montipora have done good with them. Maybe it is just me.

and a huge +1 for the API test kits

Yea. When I setup my 40 gallon, I figured it warranted the full Apex so I got it.

But I recently setup a 20 gallon nano and was debating between the full Apex or the Apex Jr. After some thought, I knew I would be regretting buying the Jr model down the road.

I haven't used HOB in years, but the last time I did, back in the 90's, our district's intermittent power failures would kill the siphons, and in getting those things going, I swallowed so much bad water it's a wonder I'm not typhoid Mary. I eventually got good at it, but I am so glad not to have to. Drilled tanks are soooooo nice.

Anything made by EcoTech marine
1. It's all way overpriced (But in their defense so is a lot of stuff in this hobby IMHO)
2. Website software really sucks unless you have just the right computer setup and even then you can have issues.
3. The fact that the dry side of their MP pumps will fail if they get the slightest bit wet is absolutely junk engineering!!
I could on but that's enough

I'm glad their MPS have come down in price. At their previous price point, it was insane to pay.

I don't think 650 for their radions is a fair price. I truly believe that their price is set cause most people don't want to hassle with DIY LED.

1. My metal halide light: It melted my tank divider. :furious: Sooooo much happier with my Kessils.

2. Bioballs: NEVER should have listened to the stupid lfs :headwally:. Tank's only cycling, and I still need to replace with refugium.

3. Tank: I should have gone bigger (of course).

Prism Deluxe skimmer. Didn't skim much of anything even after every mod.

Got the new hob Aquamaxx. Actually skims very well. Except now I want a sump...

Just not enough light for my tank :( My lfs sold me the light saying we could grow anything under it. Found out I would have had to buy 2 more just to start getting enough light, rookie mistake. Plus the controller loves to set its own times to come on and off. This is the old unit, not the new one coming out now.

I like mine - a lot. I probably will get one more for my 60 cube but at that, it's still cheaper than a lot of other lights. Good programs, programmability, remote. All good things. I'm not doing hard corals through.

Still have nightmares about this...back when the AI sol leds came out I decided to trade two of them for a cheap Chinese led T-5 combo. It looked really nice in the pics, only lasted a month. 2 of the 4 end caps for the T-5 went out then the leds started flickering 24/7. Biggest mistake in my 18 years of saltwater.
