what plugs its' hole?

would a pistol shrimp plug his hole with a piece of rock? I found this round tubular shaped piece of LR about 1 inch long the size of your little finger beneath the rock my clicker is in. It was covered with detritus when I found it. Any clue?

I've never known a pistol to plug a hole. I own a few, and they leave things wide open (unless the companion goby collapses the entrance).

OTOH, that piece of rock is WAAAY too big to be a "hole plug" for anything other than a monster mantis -- one you would definitely have seen. Think "pebble-sized" for most small smashers.

I had a Caribbean Pistol use plugs. I know he would use shells and rock to make his fromt door smaller, and I think he even totally closed it off for a while.

I also got my boy Squirtle when he was living in a piece of hollowed out Tonga branch. It was about 1 inch in diameter and 3 inches long. He had "drilled" out the center and made a nice home, which he came with. It made moving him around very easy

Wow. What to expect from this rock?!

I'm not sure If I really want to find out.

I have to check nitrates today. They are bouncing around 7-10.

My tiger pistol shrimp doesn't plug his hole but my n wennerae mantis blocks the entrance to his lair.

My Small 1" Smithii could Easyily move a 1" piece of rock. with ease. It does not have to be a large mantis. I find my small one to make more noise.

My nitrates are at 5 tonight. I will wait until they are zero, but if I have a mantis(sounds like I do) would it eat sponges? or soft coral? How about feather dusters?

I'm missing a hitch hicker tonight. It looked like a fat little sponge. Actually there were two, one wasn't as pretty. I'm not sure what they were though but I know they were fleshy. When I put the rocks into the tank the little pieces had sort of petals like on top. Like a cabbage grows.

My clicker seems to have migrated towards their previous location in the tank as well.

Whooh!

What's next?

mantids don't eat corals or sponges. If the coral wasn't glued down or was small enough to move, a mantis might have relocated it.

im not so sure about feather dusters.
