What rare angel is the least owned?

Nice Blue potters. I sent a photo of a potters I had to a fish collector and to quote him
"Yes, I've caught potter's like that before. The large blue patch is typical of a big older male. I've seen ones that are even more blue than that one. There's even one spot on the island (in a no-fishing area so I can't catch them) where the potter's are nearly all black with very little blue or orange."
That would be a interesting fish.

This fish was an emperor/ chrysurus hybrid collected in Kenya...

These morphs are believed to be a result of inbreeding... St. Paul's Rock's is far off the coast of Brazil and isolated by strong currents, so there is little to no recruitment of new H. ciliaris blood... the "rocks" are just four acres, but ciliaris are VERY common there, and so through inbreeding for eons these colors have resulted... they have been collected before and sent to Asia... the most common morph there is the all yellow... followed by the blue (clipperton like colors... convergent evolution?)... with VERY few individuals showing the koi and all white colors...

By "least owned" are we assuming then that one has to have entered the trade before? There are plenty that never have... including C. ballinae... alive at least...

This regal was collected in Djibouti by Jack Randall before I was born! I spoke with him about it as it shows chromatic anomalies like no other... it was funny because a few months ago I returned my renatl car and the woman who helped me was from Djibouti... I only knew about her country because of this fish... pretty neat how angelfish research could teach you geography!

That would be a interesting fish.

John, that's interesting... everyone I've talked to in Hawaii... an extensive list, has never seen a potter's like that with a 100% lack of orange... many with plenty blue, like the specimen at the Waikiki Aquarium, but none with a complete lack of orange... just those two specimens confirmed... there are always people who say of course... tell that guy what the Blue potter's went for (~$6,000 in yen!) and see if he produces!

So Copps, I think I am going to get rid of all of my big fish in my 180 and go with fish that don't exceed 5". trio's of small wrasses, pairs of centropge's, basslets, gobies, anthias etc... What do you think??? Sorry if I'm hijacking. So tired of seeing a 180 with a large angel, trigger, tang. Boring.... Tim

I think there is an african species that has some colour in its youth but becomes muddy brown in adulthood. I don't remember if its a Holocanthus tho.. Gotta get out the Scott Michaels' again! LOL
Also, I think there are 1 or two other genera in the family never imported, probably cold or at least temperate water fish..

It is Holocanthus Africanus.. If not wrong on the spelling...

Africanus are stunning at an inch. at 3" they become a muddy mess which then quickly turns into a giant. Never understood why this fish is so amazing a juvi and then becomes dull.

I have since changed my mind. I think the rarest angel is probably either chaetodontoplus niger or Chaetodontoplus ballinae.
