What salt does everyone use?

I like it because it keeps my big three stable and it is reasonably priced. I pay $55 out door at my lfs and I think I could even find it cheaper but I want to buy something from them on occasion.

Why do you "really" like it?

It seems to dissolve better then RC.


Just started jury is still out, only reason I switched was the store was out and it was all they had, which is a really decent reef shop.

Fritz RPM... mixes quickly with little precipitation, lower alk than I/O, still pretty inexpensive. I've noticed the price rising lately though. FWIW, it's supposedly "made" in USA.

Used to use IO for around three years then switched to RS. IO has this nasty brown sediment issue which gets on the bucket sidewalls!

I use Red Sea and get the brown side walls. I believe that it is not sediment but algae growth. When I rub it off it turns the water green.

I switch between regular Instant Ocean and Liveaquaria saltmix whichever is cheaper or on sale.

I used corralife for many years, did switch to IO a few years back.


I got a couple buckets of another brand at RAP, I'll give it a try.

Maybe a little. Slightly outside the error range of the test kit. Tends to not result in a net upward trend though.

Well obv when you're doing a minute percentage of water changes you really don't fluctuate your alk level much, correct?

Yes, it does bump alk but not enough to be a problem. I keep my alk at 8

10 gallon water changes for 86 total water volume. Roughly 12%
