I been using IO 200 gallon boxes for awhile now. Ive also been reading good things about D&D Salt. Is anyone using this locally & if so whats your thoughts on it?

If theres enough interest & alot of you want to try some 160 gallon buckets of it maybe we can get a big group buy together. If not im gonna just order me some to try out.

Let me know how it turns out. All I have ever used is IO. I've always stuck to the "Don't fix it if it isn't broken!" method, so I have never ventured away from it.

I have been hearing really good things about the D-D salt. Also as an FYI I read the long awaited new seachem salt is coming out this year.

Oceanic for me. Been very happy with it for a year now. With my low Calcium demand tank, I never have had to supplement. Mileage may vary. ;)

I have tried Reef crystals, Oceanics and IO and have not really noticed much of a difference between them so I ended up sticking with IO since I can get the 200gal box pretty cheap whenever we do the group buys... heck i have about 2.5 boxes in the closet right now so I'm good for a good while....

Thanks.

My experience is similar to mikemartinez; I've used those plus Tropic Marin. All had their particular strengths and weaknesses but no significant change in the tank.

some say IO sucks cause of bult up residue left behind after mixing and as i have had this problem too,it bulding up over time i dont see it causing me problems,i use IO....its cheap and works well as far as i have noticed

Tropic Marin but the last 2 months I've been useing BW salt. Going back to Tropic Marin pro reef. Bc of the low calcium and alk. I'm doseing vsv and mb7. So high alk bruns the tips of my sps. When I dose. I have use DD H2Ocean when I setup my nano. It's good salt just I keep my alk low at 7.5-8.2dkh and DD is at 10dkh and calcium is at 450ppm I would use it if I didn't run a ULNS.

Hi all. I just moved back to TN from VA and use D-D salt.

There is an awesome saltwater store, Atlantis, in Richmond that switched to only using D-D salt in their tanks. I like it because I do not have to add any 2-part to it to get the parameters where I want it.

I did some research on the salt when I initially bought it. People used to not like the salt because their mixing pumps would get really dirty. D-D actually responded to these comments on the forum and stated that the "residue" was from the calcium additive they used. It had in fact positive properties to it over what is normally added for calcium. However, due to the negative feedback they have stopped using this and it should no longer be an issue.

The only thing negative is the plastic handle on the 50lbs bucket feels flimsy but they are replacing this with a metal one in the near future.

I use IO, but I prefer Coralife. The problem is, PetSmart won't price match it any more for me... heh. I'm probably going to get a box of ReefCrystals next time, which will be soon and most likely from Emerald Bay.

Oceanic Here. Never have to adjust it. IO and reef Crystals I was going through 2 part and supplements just to get parameters up.

IO was the staple and one of the first..been around at least 26 years now, but costs alot more when you have to doctor it every time.

The problem wit IO is low Calcium not so much residue, But If your not keeping lots of SPS that don't matter anyway. IO is fine for fish and zoas and lps IMO.
