What Size Seio's should I get???

I recently set up a new 90 AGA Megaflow with a 30 gallon sump. I have 4 MJ 1200 powerheads on a wavemaker. (1 1200 runs constantly) I want to add 2 Seio powerheads for better flow. I have about 130 lbs of live rock so I want to make sure I get good flow throughout and behind the rock.

I am flowing about 500 gph through my sump.

What size Seio's would be appropriate?

Regards,

Pat

I would go at least 1500's for a 90 and ditch the mj's all together. I have one 1100 in my 55 and plan to add another. Much better flow than the mj's, they pust a lot of water but at the same time there not overpowing. maybe even go for 2 m2600's.

I have an 820 in my 90 AGA and the sump flow which is 500gph for now. I also have another 820 still in the box, I'll eventually add it later. So far flow seems fine to me with the 1 820. No matter where my clowns have gone in the tank, the are swimming against the currents. I have about 110 lbs of rock.

I have two 1100's at 21w each and two MJ900's at 8.5w each, which is less wattage than your 4 MJ1200's at 20w each and I am pushing 400gph through my sump. I get 3060gph through my 90g tank and it does a nice job which is about 34 times the 90g water volume. The Seio's can not go on a wavemaker, they tend to not start up after a power outage, even a little flicker, which does not happen that often. I just give the Seio's a nice little knock on my palm under the water there and they kick back on, which is a little pain, but the lower cost compared to tunze is worth it to me right now. These two Seio's at $60 each, was a lot less than the Tunze's at $500.

I would keep at least two of the MJ1200's, so if there is a short power outage, you still have two reliable PH's to push some water until you get a chance to help the Seio's start again.

Oh.. to answer your question, your 1100's are the best bang for your buck I think with a lot lower wattage than the 1500's, they do not have much direct current like the MJ1200's even though they push more water. They just push a wider stream which is good for overall flow through your tank and then the 2 or 4 MJ's can be for a more direct current in certain area's.

Here is a little LPS video that show's my flow is pretty good.

rjwilson37,
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I had a couple of the 2600 on order but cancelled them. I think I would be too much flow. I have pretty fine sand as well so I think I would have a sandstorm.

But I am going to order a couple of the 1100. I will also keep a couple of the 1200 in the tank as well. I am gong to tear down my 46 and it has 2 mj 1200 in it as well with real nice coralline on it.

Thanks guys for all the information.

Regards,

Pat
