What skimmer are you using for 180g tanks?

I only have 12" x 16" in the sump, but I could run an external. It just has to be under 28" in height to fit it under the stand and I would have to move some things around as my sump is 48" long.

Someone had mentioned to just mod the G3, but they were not sure if the mods could handle the load (4 tangs, 3 dwarf angels, anthias, clowns and chromis and corals).

What are the dimensions of the Octopus Dual 250? I see it is on sale at $509. The Orca will be a little over $400 per the website. Wouldn't the EV 240 require a big pump?

Octopus Dual 250 has a
Foot print 12 inches x 18 inches.

The octopus 200 has a
Footprint is 10.5 inch by 15 inch

The recirc octopus 200 has a
Footprint is 9 inches by 21 inches.

ASM g4 is (I think this skimmer sucks compared to those 3)
11-1/2-inches x 16-inches

looks like you have a 55g tank for sump. I am running close to the same. i think my skimmer area is 15" or 16" long, and the modded G3 fits - close, but fits. Can't say from personnal experience, since mine is only a few months old on upgraded tank. heavy fish load, but again pretty new.

i am assuming you have owned and used all 4 you listed here on your tank. or is this word of mouth?

Again, i seen several people using them and very happy, especially for the cost. yes they should be modified, but at worse, that's another $50. I know they are being used unmodded too on same size tank.

I own a nw200 and I have several friends that have g3's and g4's. I have one friend that used to run a g4 and now runs a nw200 and would never go back.

No I haven't tried the recirc 200 or the 250 but I assume they are better than mine is considering they are the next models up...

When I had my 180 up I ran a Barr Aquatic SK4200 Duel Beckett Skimmer.

It's a monster.
