what skimmer is best?

okay, decision has been made. I will go with the aquamaxx cones o2 series. i figured its rated for 350 gallon so might be over kill for my 150 set up but who knows if i may upgrade to larger size tank in near future.

Thanks everyone.

I have a bunch. I have the new Octopus 350 Diablo with the DC pump - it can get outskimmed by a really old ER 12-2 with the dual sedra 5000 pumps. I am not impressed with the DC Octopus 350 yet, but need to try a few more settings. I have a bubble king 250 with the red dragon - this is one heck of a skimmer, but will not outproduce a pair of ASM G4s at 5x the cost. The best one that I have bought lately was a 8" body octopus with the sicce pump - beast out of the box. I also have a few ASM G4s and a really old ER 12-2 and they are still very good skimmers.

IMO, a pair of good skimmers will outperform a great one, but I also have super large sumps and plenty of room for skimmers.

Aquamaxx are the best skimmers in their price range without a doubt. Get a cone 2 or a em-200. They're balanced better than the vertex omega, reef octopus, and asm for sure. They're quieter and come with italian sicce shark pumps that produce a nice stable foam head.

Have you had one very long and which one?

I ran the 200 on a 150 gallon sps tank for a year and now I have a jns sk2 going on a 100 gallon tank. I've owned about 16 skimmers (4 aquamaxx) and they perform better than any other brand i've owned. I run the hob-1 on my temporary 40 gallon long right now and the shark pump is dead silent and it pulls coffee colored skimmate out every week. I also work on a 500 gallon reef that uses the cone 7 and it kicks a$$. The same dude has a 300 gallon fowler with the cone 5 that works great. These skimmers rock.
