what species of anemone is this?

I know that reefscience has it labeled as an H. Malu, but my best guess would be a purple LTA.

Since several anemone species are commonly referred to as "LTA", I prefer not to use the term. It's confusing IMO.
This is a good example. I don't think this is a Macrodactyla, but I'm interested in hearing other's opinions.

gary, ive seen a few of these at local stores, almost always listed as h. malu or h.crispa. i dont think ive ever seen a true, postively identified h. malu, but i always assumed if i did see one, this is what they would probably look like.
if it isnt h.malu, it could just be a different growth form of h.crispa. sort of like how e. quadricolor has been known to have different growth patterns for different depths.

I'd say H. crsipa also.
Visible nematocysts, no visible verrucae through the "thinner" areas of the oral disc, and looking very H. crispa to me.
Of course, it would be nice to see the oral disc folded back in a picture. Maybe Chad can start a new trend in the online supplier community by providing such pictures along with the frontal shots

I would say H. crispa that is feeling a little poorly.
There are several collectors/wholesalers/distributors out there that ID everything as H. malu. Malu used to be used as a common name (especially on the East Coast) instead of sebae.
According to Fautin's description of H. malu (which is all I have to go by) the anemone pictured appears too large and the tentacles to long to be H. malu.
