What tang is this ?

Hi guys, purchased a new tang from my LFS, it looks amaxing and im wondering if ive got something special, ive been doing research and it looks extremely like this:

But, it does not have the yellow patch on the tail, it has a lovely neon blue around the body and the month and the yellow trike between the main yellow curves near the tail.

Whatever it is it looks beautiful and always out and about!

It does look like it could be and it also looks to have either ich or velvet good luck he looks like he could be a stunner.

Thx for replying, what in your opinion would be the best treatment? He did have some speckles when i got him.

You bought a sick fish and put him in your display tank? If so, you are in for a battle. what all is in your tank? corals, inverts, other fish? that will help identify the best treatment.

if you have a QT set up, that may be your best bet, but now any fish you have in there with him will probably have some type of break out.

Hard to tell what's on the fish versus the glass, but it does look like it is battling a parasite of some kind. Gold Rim/Powder Brown/Achilles are notorious for ich and velvet and frankly should never be introduced into the main display without being quarantined/medicated first. Not sure what size tank this fish is in and with what tankmates, but I would remove it immediately to a separate QT and begin cupramine. If you do not have QT capability, either find a local reefer who can help or return it to the LFS. Both ich and velvet will kill fish, the latter much more quickly!

It should've been treated before entering your DT, but those spots look like micro-bubbles to me. They show in the water column around the fish too...

Thanks for input, im getting stressed here, i cant catch him the little bugger, I will monitor him, I have loads of corals and fish in the tank.

if you could, try and clean the glass off then get a pic of him so we can tell what is actually on him. We may be overreacting as well.

I will, ive been studying him and I 'think' he is okay, i think they are little bubbles, hard to tell as he is a dark grey but quite see through with the lighting.

Looks like he has ich which is not surprising on these fish. If that is what it looks like, you definitely have it in your display now. But if you did not QT before, you probably had it in there regardless. Hopefully he will do well for you and not bring in anything new.

One thing i have to say is its a great fish shop with great reputation, I dont think they would let me buy a sicko! Will keep you updated.

Looks like he's got some Achilles in him with the orange on the tail. Very cool hybrid.

It looks like ich to me. If you are able to set up a QT, set up a fish trap and catch all your fish and place them in it and start treating with medication.

if it's not possible, then just keep feeding and hope he can develop an immunity to it.

These fish (Powder Blue, powder Brown, Hippo and Achilles) are notorious for getting skin parasites. The quality of the LFS really has little bearing on whether the fish will get something or not. With these I just always assume they are infested and treat accordingly.

pretty lil fish and a great size...agree with above she looks "ichy" but when they are comfy and eating they can overcome it and ime/imo, often become almost "bullet-proof." I would leave her in there as trying to go after her with a net will prob make things worse as she will be very stressed...you could try soaking her food in some meds- not sure what else is in the tank though...
however, if you have a decent sized qt that is up and running and I would risk trying to catch her...
keep feeding her many times a day...

Ick in your dt isn't necessarily doom and gloom like some people want you to believe. Healthy stress-free environment (as much as possible) will generally allow them to ride it out.

I couldn't agree more. It's in mine, but my tank is thriving and my fish look beautiful!

I should have added I have ick in mine as well and my new clown tang just successful beat it for now.
