What to do when a fish jumps out?

your husband picked him up with his hands :O?

LOL... yep... guess he didn't know any better! The guy at my LFS said the same thing! Luckily he didn't get stung, that would have turned an already interesting morning into an unforgettable day I'm sure.

As of right now Roger (the fish) is doing great. Eating, swimming and acting like nothing happened. He's still a little grayer than usual but otherwise seems to have made a full recovery from the ordeal.

Yep, first thing i noticed when i came here in these forums is : there is way too many people who take this hobby super serious and will talk down on you all the time as though you did their mom wrong.. oh and they also pm mods to ban you just because you utter a few words they did not like..... etc. You just have to take it for what its worth and move on.. no harm done.

Anyways.. back on topic. I would not stress much, the next thing something like that happens again, if the fish is still breathing it may pull through. I had a fish once almost completely dried, i picked it up to throw it away, then it moved. I then put it in the sump. He recovered fully after a few weeks. If it moves, it has a chance to live.

Enjoy your tank.. don't mind super anal people.

hello. it is real sad day for me- i found my wrasse on the floor when I come back from work...I blame my work for it because..I always changing water when light are off, not to stress my fish. I got up at 6am to change water as usual, and my work called me that I should be there ( they changed my shift without letting me know:uzi::uzi:...I found out when I arrived to work :headwalls:!) . I drained 20% of water, and when they rang me I was just about to put it water to the tank. I left my aquarium and I went to work real not impressed. fan were off, and probably my wrasse thought that is feeding time.? she was so fat and gready ! this wrasse was with me for so long already, I think that she was just waiting for food thinking is feeding time! RIP my lovely wrasse! I am sorry! I feel guilty that I have not buy net to cover my tank. I was fighting with algae and high temps. in summer when my aquarium had a lid on, and after I removed lid everything was better- my temps was steady 24C throughout day and night ,and also I had less algae. Before temps was all over the place even with the fact that my tank stays in shadow area. :mad2::blown:

Found this thread looking for ideas about covers or screens. A couple weeks ago one of my mated clowns jumped out for no reason (too long to save) so I replaced him on 12/28/16 with a Diamond Watchman Goby and on the morning of 12/29 my dog gave me the bad news that he too had hit the ejection lever to that great fish tank in the sky.... All my other fish (about 6 or 7) are going on 2 years in my tank and even my anthias shows no interest in jumping. Well as they say, thats just the price of doing business. :-(

Glad to hear he is doing better. For future reference, IMO, fish usually jumps when they are scared or some act of aggression is happening against them. I would keep your eyes open to see if someone is messing with him.
