What to feed?

I recently recieved a shipment of soft corals for my 29gal. Right now I have a handful of mushrooms, two ricordia, some small polyps, and very small frags of kenya tree, lemon tree, neon pineapple tree, and purple passion tree.

The package inserts specify that the GSP benefit from zooplankton, the trees need microplankton or marine snow, and the xenia will benefit from the addition of both. The LFS suckered me into buying cyclopees (they were out of marine snow, I should have known better), so now I have yet another fish food.

I figure before I go buy something I'll see what everyone else uses. What does everyone out there recommend feeding softies? PhytoPlex? MarineSnow? ZooPlex? Micro-Vert? Something else entirely?

Dont waste your money... Nothing you named off NEEDS to be fed.

I figured they didn't NEED to be fed, but if I do feed them will they grow faster? I didn't realize how tiny the frags were going to be when I ordered them, so now I want to focus on maximizing their growth. I just want to get these 1/2" frags to a point where you can actually tell what they are.

Softies, particularily leathers can go very quickly. In a few months they should be a decent size.

Could you post photos of these corals? The descriptions make them sound like Dendronephthya sp (or something related), in which case feeding is absolutely needed.

I certainly can. These photos were taken a few days after they acclimated to my tank. I have no idea what the scientific names are, I just know what the reputable online retailer labeled them as on their website (not sure if I can specifically say where). As you can see, these frags are beyond tiny. I would really like to get them taller than 1". Any suggestions are appreciated!

:thumbsup: Relatives of Dendro, but I do believe all 3 are largely photosynthetic. Thats good

Keep them someplace with a good amount of water flow. Im willing to bet that they would benefit from occasional feedings (think marine snow sized food).

Excellent! They're in a 29gal with probably more light than they need (150W HQI + 2x65W PCs), and I'v been dropping in a few mls of marine snow every few days, so hopefully I'll see some nice growth soon here. Thanks for all the help and advice!!
