i only have a 12g eclipse with 2 clowns....what will they host its so sad watching them at night...one is kinda chillin on the substrate and my other hosts the black caulking in the corner..they're both active so i dunno...whats should i do just leave them? even when i setup up my 40g i can't set it up with an anemone right away so...should i just leave them in the 12 till my tank is stable and get anemone and then have them host the anem then? sorry for long post

An anemone will probably have a hard time in the Eclipse 12 without upgrading the lighting...and as I understand it most of the "host friendly" corals need a bit better lighting than the Eclipse's base fixture can provide.

ohh i know this, but theres gotta be something...our eclipses are worthless lighting but its depressing watching them they look so sad...but they're very good actors i know this much lol

I can't wait to add some fish to mine...I get back to my dorm room to see how it looks in about 7 hours...I'm hoping for good news.

Unfortunately I don't know how much LR i'm gonna be able to afford...I might have to piece it together $15 or $20 at a time.

I have three pairs of clowns, one hosts hair algae, one hosts a torch coral, and the thirs hosts a flower pot (female) and muchroom corals (male). If you want them to host some target coral, it is mo0stly out of your control. What you can try is to get a flower pot, almost always a sure thing, then attach a frag to the top or side. Just the proximity might encourage hosting. Also depends on the species.

My clown started hosting in my Xenia. I have a rose tip anemone in the tank but it just hides in the back of the rock all the time. The clowns never have a chance to discover it I guess.

Our Ocellaris pair host in a big colony of Anthelia near the front of our 75g tank. It's pretty cute IMNSHO. :) Much better than when they were hosting our Sinularia (spaghetti leather), they were loving that one to death so we moved it to the other side of the tank.

Yeah, our poor clowns are deprived, 20 bta's in the house and they get none. :(

Frilly or Fuzzy mushrooms are fairly popular as are toadstools. The mushrooms seem to fair better, IMO, than most. HTH, Marcye

What is the lighting on an eclipse? just flourescents? if so find the closest thing you can to a 10k type bulb, like an aquasun or something, and try mushroom corals, I would normally attempt an elephant ear type mushroom, but in a 12 gallon that might be a bit much, maybe just get a couple of frilled mushrooms, or hairy mushrooms. Be sure to try and find a nice rock of them, or atleast a good sized one because you will not get much if any growth out of it.

Mushrooms are hardy as heck, and can live with minimal lighting, while nobody is going to out right promise that mushrooms will make it in that lighting, I have seen it.

A local guy set up a fish only tank and when he did he wanted some rocks in there, rather then rresearch it all out, he went online and ordered 50# of live rock from some ebay store.
I told him I would never let him live down that fact that by the time all was paid for he spent like $7 bucks a pound any ways.
Well when he got the live rock I had my foot in my mouth, it was probablly 40% covered in coralline, one large rock had about 4 mushroom starts on it, one rock had a pistol shrimp hideing in it, and another had some nice macro and a pretty greenish blue sponge on it.

Anyways he put it all in his fish only tank with flourescents, and the macro, the sponge and the mushrooms did ok, the sponge and the mush rooms grew so slow you would not notice any growth unless you hadn't looked at his tank for a month.
So they can live that way, just not well.

pagoda cup and xenia?

pagoda cup and xenia?

I have a larger pair in 1 tank that seems to favor my pagoda cup and the other pair in another tank that seem to prefer hiding out in the xenia...who knows!

My tomato hosts any of the different frilly green mushrooms I have. Those should do ok under standard fluorescent lighting.

I have a pair of Onyx A. percula hosted by my H crispa. However, they often spend time in my green frilly mushrooms. Mushrooms should be OK under PC light. Don't get those giant elephant ear. They can eat clowns. I tried to feed my mushroom with bits of food. They don't take anything, mysis, flakes, or bits of fish so I think the clowns are save. My mushrooms are about 2-3 inches.

i have an eclipes as well, and i went down to my LFS and got a retro fix of power compacts to replace the lighting..i dont know if they come that small but i would check it out!

The Eclipse 12 has Power Compact already, but it's just a single 13w bulb.

The default bulb of the Eclipse 12 is a 5500k. I found a 10k/Actinic 03 50/50 bulb on www.hellolights.com for less than $20 shipped, so I picked one up.

I'll post pics when it gets here.
