My current system is 10+ years and b/c of the vermid snails (tube worms or whatever), I can't use any of the LR to seed my tank. I ordered 40LB of Reef saver rock just so I don't have to deal with phospates later. I do however, have 1 large piece of white pukani rock that has been sitting in the sun for 8 years that never been used - which is gorgeous piece and has to be used. - I really doubt this will cause problems but we'll see its only 10Lb.

the same way verms got into the first tank, they will get into this one. withholding the live rock won't work/helpful heads up. If they were avoidable first round, they would have been.

Yup, so far I’ve dodged these by close inspection of coral adds, some QT time, keeping some bumblebee snails (which help control) and starting with dry rock, so the rock you love, go for it.

I’d love to use LR again but got a few bad guys last time.

Aptasia was 1 but was eradicated by a copperband.
Flatworms, just the photosynthetic ones which were eradicated by flatworm exit.
A 6” mantis, three years after rock added, which stalked, beat up, and consumed three fish before discovery…..eliminated….surprisingly slow swimmer and not to smart.

Started another system now 6 years ago with Carb-Sea Life Rock, the purple stuff.
All the look right away, without possible pests.

Matured up nice and is still purple 6 years down the road. Still, no pests, but everything QT.

Stuff was pricey but for me, worth it.

Agreed the bumblebee keeps mine in check it's kind of amazing. But they grow right back in a month if I pull the snail.

Agreed visual observation time/ months is needed before going into display. And even with that in place I don't know if there's a med that will kill them. Someone ought to experiment with wormer veterinary meds or 'mectin to see if it'll kill them. Predation is the only thing I've ever seen work, it's not prevention.

Always beat invasion challenges in current tank before setting up a new one.
