I recently got a pair of erectus. They are CB but seem to be quite unsure of how to handle anything besides a bare bottom tank. The male seems to think the only sturdy thing in the tank is the filter intake, while the female prefers to hitch to the rocks and not the caulerpa.
My tank has lace rock (which has lots of inner holes) and caulerpa. Last night, I found the female stuck, wound between a calcarous fern with her snout wedged in a rock crevasse. I worked late, and have no idea how long she had been like that. I assume she was chasing an amphipod and wound herself into a knot. These things are worse than 2 year olds!
I dis-ensnared her and she promptly went to the back of the tank, behind the rocks, and I couldn't really see her. This morning at lights on, she was still in the same spot. Throughout the day, she has moved around some.
She has a white place on the top of her snout, which I would assume is a bruise. It doesn't look like snout rot...yet...but although she was interested at dinner time tonight, she wouldn't snick, so I know it is sore.
If it is not better tomorrow, what and how do you suggest I treat it? I would prefer a topical ointment to allow her to remain in the tank with her mate, but a dip would be acceptable too. I truly prefer not to quarantine her at this point, but will do so if the spot appears to be getting any worse.
