What type of filtration for quarantine tank?

I'm in the process of isolating my fish in a quarantine tank and I'm considering treating with a hypo-salinity method for marine Ick. I have a 168 gallon reef and I don't know which method of QT would be easier: isolating all the inverts (much easier to collect) in a seperate tank and leaving the fish in the display, or isolating the fish in a QT seperate tank.

As far as the QT tank itself (be it the display or the 'other' tank) will the protein skimmer maintain its effectiveness given that the salinty is so low or should I consider another filtration option?

Thank you!

For a QT, I'd go with either a large sponge filter or biowheel type filter. A protien skimmer will be ineffective with the low salinity of hypo.

Thanks billsreef!

Thanks billsreef!

I thought I had read somewhere that low salinity would have an adverse effect on protein skimmer effectiveness, thanks for the confirmation!
