What worm\hitchhiker am I? ID Please.

Hi All,

Noticed this worm that is completely nocturnal at it was very hard to get a photo in pitch black with the flash but in focus. Anyway hoping someone could ID him for me as Ive leant my invert book to my brother in law. Ideas?

Just had a read of http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-04/rs/index.php and it seems that it could be a Eunice but im not 100%

Not sure if I should be concerned or not yet. Also short of removing the whole rock im not sure what I could do to remove it.

yep, thats a eunicid, or bobbit worm.

it should be in a species only tank, imo.

here is the good news: a few soecies can be beneficial scavangers of carrrion.

the bad news: the majority are not scavengers, but predators.

these predators are niegh impossible to capture, unless you know where the burrow is.

they are capable of catching and killing many fish, even the active swimming ones.

some canreach sizes of over 20 feet! possibly 60 feet!!!

the good news is, your looks small enough that it cant kill too many fish or inverts, and if you catch him, their are people who will spend dinero for him.

he is so small, you might be able to suck him off the rock with a turkey baster!

and has anyone heard reports of a eunicid worm breaking someones foot with a bite?

Hi,

I apologize for hijacking your thread but I have been looking on the internet for the past two days for an answer. I was wondering what all the grey tentacle like worms poking out of the live rock are. I just got some live rock and I have these worms as well. I am not really worried about them I was just wondering what they are.

ajstitan14, sounds like they could be peanut worms, anyt more info would be helpful, lots of worms use tentacles, but maybe distinct patterns, parapodia length, if any, head type, len gth etc.
