What would cause my SPS to die over night?

Last night everything looked great - I get home from work today and half of my corals are white.

Tests came up with:

Calc : 440
Alk : 9dkh
NO : 0ppm

I have been running the same lighting setup for mths and the only thing I did was add a green slimer frag on the other side of the tank.

Any ideas?

Temp, Power failure, External Toxins, Electricity, Exploding heater, kids putting something in the tank, sand bed crashed, alk swing, salinity swing out of range. SPS already on the way out and finally caved to a mass RTN due to parameter imbalances, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, copper. How old is the tank?

It happened right after I was pouring RO in - I think I freaked em out because palops are coming back.

How did your SPS go from white to normal in 24 hrs time? Are they always white? Ive never seen a coral lose all color and have it return the next day. Are you making sure to add the RO to your sump and not your main display? Are you warming it up if at all possible? If its for top off purposes i would recommend an auto top off to keep this issue from happening again.

I have a 40 gallon tank and I pour 1 gallon right into the tank daily. At times it hits the frag racks directly and still nothing bleaches. I have never heard of a coral bleaching and recovering overnight either. This doesn't make sense to me.

I do not have a sump so I pour the RO in the back corner of the tank, it is heated to 78degrees
