What would you choose?

I have decided that a need a good portrait lens, but I'm having a tough time deciding which one. I think I have narrowed it down to the Sigma 30 1.4, Canon 50 1.4, or the Canon 85 1.8. I would use it mostly for family Candid shots, mostly outdoors but I would like to be able to shoot indoors as well. What would you choose?

P.S. I shoot a 50d.

Thanks guys!

Looking at your pictures with your current lenses. What focal lengths to you seem to use most often?

I wouldnt go with the 85mm simply based off the fact that you want to be able to shoot indoors.

I've got the canon 50mm f/1.4 and I have to be standing 20-25 feet away from my wife to get a full body shot. That's stretching it for most living rooms. The 85mm would be almost impossible. If you want close ups indoors, then it would be fine but otherwise I'd skip even considering the 85.

I love my 50mm, it takes great shots. If you go into my new daughter thread on this forum, every single shot was taken with the 50mm, it takes nice crisp photos and can do it with no light just amazingly.

As Recty said, I would not get the 85 if you want to use it indoors. The 30mm is a bit on the short side for portraits and may be distorted features at certain angles.

I have a 50mm 1.8 and it it fast and sharp, but would love the 1.4.
