What would you do?

Here's my situation.
I've got 4 BTA's that are healthy 3 are what I call Lava and one Sunburst. I've got a pair of True Perculas that were my first fish in this tank. They don't even look at any of the anemones.

Since I got the Perculas I added a Cherub Angel and a Hector's goby. The Cherub Angel will on occasion show some aggression towards the other fish but nothing bad. The Hector's goby will bow up at the Cherub Angel and it backs down.

So I wanted to add a few more fish, I decided to get a pair of black mollies so they would provide free food to my other tank fish as well as themselves. When I put them in the Cherub NOT SO Angel decided to try and kill them. Well I kept scaring him away from them and after a while he didn't even care if I was there or not and kept attacking them. So I moved them to the sump.

Now I want to either sell the Cherub Angel and either sell the BTA's or the Perculas since no anemone hosting is going on. My reason to have an anemone and clowns was to enjoy the hosting.

If I keep the BTA's and get rid of the Perculas my choices for clownfish are all mostly aggressive clowns. If i get rid of the BTA's and get an anemone that the Perculas have a better chance of hosting I'll be getting an anemone that can and would eat fish in my tank. Either a gig or a mag are best bets I think for hosting the Perculas.

SO... What would you do? :mixed:

I would trade everything (except for the clowns of course) for a healthy gig or mag (gig being first choice personally), and I have one of each of the nems noted here, with neither really being an issue with other fish.

Now a Haddon's, that is a different story - the one I had (before I traded its ravenous butt in for the purple gig) ate several fish in short order...

I would get rid of the perculas and get another kind of clown. I have maroon clowns that can't wait for a new anemone. I have had a few anemones that didn't live long for some reason but when I added a new one they loved it. They even went to a condy when that's all I had in there.

So are you saying that the gig would be least likely to eat fish? I do like my Perculas and they are almost perfectly matched in their coloration and patterns. They are not aggressive at all and that is why I went with the Perculas.

I still have the problem with the Cherub Angel to deal with. I'm going to try and sell it if I can. Sadly I don't have any LFS within 2-3 hour drive one way that is decent. The best I've got is Petco which is 45 min drive one way. But I do go to Sioux City where its located a few times a month so going there isn't an issue really. I know they won't take it.

I love the looks of the Maroon Clowns and I use to have them. I really don't want to deal with such an aggressive fish.

I was checking out Cinnamon Clowns but I'm not sure about how aggressive they are. I know the Tomato Clowns are aggressive as are the Clarkii's

Future additions to my tank will be picked from this list.

Royal Gramma
Flame Hawk
McCosker's or Carpenter flasher wrasse (maybe both)
Yellow Watchman Goby

In my experience, yes, the gig would be the least likely to consume other fish...

Too bad, my cherub pair are relatively mild in disposition - in with a harlequin bass and six royal grammas, and they do nothing...

My tomato pair hold sway over a bunch of damsels (blue devil pair, trio of yellow dominos, and a 4-stripe) and a splendid dottyback, so I would agree they would probably present a problem with less aggressive fishes.

However, my clarki pair is really skittish and tame, and I have a single allard's in with a skunk pair, and she does not show any aggression even after several months.

Two favorites from that list are the hawk and goby...

Well, this would be an easy decision for me.
First I keep corals so I won't even consider even an iffy angel, so bye bye.
I love perculas, they are my favorite, all of them, designer or straight percs, so that pretty much answers what I'd do w/ the BTA's(I also will never do BTA's in a mixed reef again)
I love the mags, provide good conditions and an isolated perch w/ good light and they should stay there.
A Gig is the only host nem I have never personally owned, so nothing to add there.
Maroons, always loved them in pics, kept many, I'm pretty over bloody knuckles!(Or worse the smart ones that bite the webbing between fingers)

I would definitely keep the percula, especially if they were wild caught PNG or Solomon percula. I would definitely go with a gigantea as host for them.

My gigs haven't eaten any fish yet, despite some fish really pushing it. Especially the one regal angel that is in that tank regularly tries to steal food out of the gig when I feed it. On several occasion he nearly gave me a heart attack when he actually touched tentacles.

My clowns are the center of my tank, whether in a 20 gallon or 100 gallon. It doesn't matter if it's a $200 fairy wrasse or a $10 Blenny...if they harass my clowns they are out of the tank.

Totally agree, once had a yellow tang who enjoyed harassing my clowns stealing their eggs, and then tailswiped one, luckily not too bad but she was scarred for a month.
I tore that tank apart getting that thing out immediately
