whatever happened to sfvr?

I talk to jose from aquarium works he says it's ok to set up a quaterly meeting /frag swap @ aquarium works
He will let me know next week.
Ps it's potluck

I still think its important for the club to have meetings outside of a retail store. I'd rather see us meet on a quarterly basis somewhere and then suppliment the remaining time with trips, visits to the store and swaps.

We need this core group to help organize and plan the meetings. Once this group gets going the other items: visits and swaps with come.

I'd like to make a request that anyone interested in being an active member of this club, please chime in here.
Jeff

Imho, you guys need to start over and figure out how to get the remaining equipment, funds, membership, items that Conrad may have. You guys have the members, all you need to do is get it going. This can be a great club if someone takes the initiative. I plan to stay a member. Goodluck!

So far Conrad is unreachable. I would like to get a core of active members together (like Jeff said) and reform the club by making a new website and figuring out a regular meeting schedule. As for meeting at stores I have spoken to Aquarium Works and they said that they won't be ready for any club activity for a while. As for Vivid it was truly upsetting that they lost money on our first BBQ meet. I do not want that to happen again. Until we can establish a core group of dedicated and contributing members I think we should refrain from imposing on local fish stores. Even if it is a potluck and we all bring our own food it is still disruptive to their business if we do not have good attendance. Dave at Vivid is a great guy and I truly felt sorry about the lack of support from our members at his BBQ.

As for the other ideas that people have presented, they have their merits but will require some more discussion to flesh out the details. If you are not already on the SFVR mailing list please let me know so that I can add you. I would like to schedule a meeting to discuss all of these details so please let me know when are good days and times for all of you.

Thank you again Tanu for your support and I hope we will be able to get the club running at full speed soon.

I have looked at the website a while back but never saw any events or anything new when I was checking it out. I will join if people are serious and go to meetings/swaps/etc when i am not working :)

I joined last January, and have yet to make a meeting due to work/family scheduling conflicts. This weekend I have three classmate birthdays to attend with my kids (fun!), but evenings after 7pm and weekends are generally fine with me.

If potluck, I can easily pick up some (like roasted chickens from Zankou) food to bring.

I assume that I am on the email list. My last email from Richard (about Garrett's) was on 9/9/10. Let me know if that wasn't the last email sent.

No worries Richard, I know everything needed to start the club so holler when your ready.

i have some spare equipments that can be for club use... nothin fancy, but a couple of empty tanks (ap24, 20L), some k1's, hob skimmer, 150w sunpod that we can use to house frags for local swaps. would just need a stand or two (and water and a heater).

once i get the house decently situated, i can probably host a potluck mini swap every couple months. probably not a bad idea to rotate locations around the valley so the same people aren't always driving the farthest.

That's a good idea Mike!

probably only need 2-3 suitable locations in different parts of the valley and that way, each of those people would only host once or twice a year, but the club gets 3 to 6 little swaps/meet-n-greets a year. those can be mixed in or replaced by LFS trips/swaps/bbq's/whatevers where the whole club goes (if possible).

i agree w/ richard tho that we probably should hold off on using an LFS for a bbq/swap-type event till we can get a consistent and sizeable turnout to make it worthwhile for the LFS. Either that, or if we have a raffle use the proceeds to cover the actual costs for the LFS and whatevers leftover goes to the club. i dunno how that'd work tho; just throwin out an idea.

Hey eurphoricgear, dodgerblew and watchguy123 send me a message with your emails so I can add you to our mailing list. We are communicating through emails right now. There is a meeting coming up in a couple weeks.
