what's a real good skimmers

IMO allmost all upper level skimmers made by reputable companies are good skimmers. There are basically 2 up to date types...becketts and needlewheels. Becketts have more power for the $. You will have to pay twice the amount to get the same performance out of a good needlewheel but they are more efficient. Most will agree needlewheels are also easier to use but once you learn to use a beckett they are more "versatile".
Some good needlewheels out there are Deltec, H and S, Geo and Euroreef and most will agree Deltec and H & S are the best 2 and that they are overpriced.

A few of the better becketts out there are Precision Marine, Barr Aquatics(being made under another name now I can't recall) and My Reef Creations(which is what I use on my larger tank)

One thing I like about becketts over needlewheels besides the initial cost is that you can run them with an auto shutoff container. You will have to modify any needlewheel you buy to be able to do that.

Also keep in mind there are as many different opinions on skimmers as there are skimmers:)

...and everybody will tell you the skimmer they are currently using is the greatest until they buy their next one and then that will be the greatest etc....:p

I use in a 100 g reef tank Aqua-C Remora. I empty a half a cup every 7 days and I think that it is very good choice.:)

I use two ER's, ES5-2 and CS5-2 side by side and I'm very happy with them. I think the ASM's are about the same and a step up would be the Deltech and H&S.

low price range ASM or octopus
mid price range H&S
high price range Deltec or Bubble King

I have a H&S 200xf2001 and I love it.

If i am not mistaken, isnt the ASM basically a Euro reef, use the same pump, same design, just cheaper? Maybe I am wrong. I only run a 55g so i just went with an ASM G3 because it was cheap and it will skim the heck out of a 55 gallon tank. Now when i get a larger system and all my corals grow out you bet your bottom dollar I will be getting a Deltec.

I would say that any of the skimmers ASM, HS, Deltec, Bubbleking(that would probably cost more than your whole setup so thats just retarded) would be an upgrade. No matter what you add i would expect to see an improvement in your system.
