What's doing this to my SPS?

That acro crab is most likely the problem. That's what it was for me.

Watch the coral at the middle of the night, u will catch it in action.

if its overnight then its not a pest like redbugs, thats some pretty extensive predation overnight, got to be a nocturnal mystery gypsy for sure

Well, just to be safe, I moved the acro crab to the sump. No definitive proof he did it, but he was rummaging through one of my smaller mille colonies last night and he was easy to pull out. I hope he was the culprit to this mysterious carnage, but still keeping my eye open for other potential pests.

The blenny would do it in plain sight. If it's happening during lights-off period then it has to be a hitchhiker (crabs). Hope you find the guilty party quick.

I also had a blenny that took right to munching on sps. I got a Bi Color and it went straight to and acro and started munching. It did a bit of damage to a few of my favorite sps. It was a big deal getting the blenny out as well.

The true acro crabs cause no harm. double check with pics on google to make sure yours is indeed an acro crab. if it was living in a millie, and the millie had PE, then it was acro crab, and causes no harm to SPS.

but those little black crabs, or hairy ones ... ahhh, they can make a colony look miserable withing a night or two.

try the crab trap method as well, a tall glass, by the rock work, with piece of shrimp at the bottom. you should catch a bunch of stuff by morning if you leave it by the rock work.

I had a Blenny munching big chunks out of my SPS. I caught him and my SPS recovered fine

IMHE allmost is correct, anything hairy legged crab either black or white especially with white eyes. Get rid of them. Sorry to see your badly munched frag, dude.

I assume it was a crab that had some fun with your coral. Try checking your tank after the tank light is out.

I looked at my tank with a the help of a flashlight after the light was out, and this was what I saw.. :hmm6:

I am 100 percent sure it was the hairy acro crab. I thinks its not the the good smooth white colored crab. I have colonies of acro which used to host the hairy crabs which were doing some nipping on my acros. I took the hairy crabs out and left the white smooth crab. No more nipping happened after that.
