looking for ideas and so far i was thinking for my 125 gallon putting a 10 gallon tank or whatever i can fit and use a maxi jet pump and jbj auto top off controller. Is this worth doing without spending to much money. My 75 does fine with 5 gallon aquadose jug that is gravity fed, but need something i can hide in stand for tank in living room.

what size pump would be good to use, i only have 2 maxi jet 1200's and a 600 laying around would either of them be good to use or could you recommend one.

thanks mark

depends on the setup

if you aren't using a relay you're supposed to use the smaller pumps like the MJ600s

I used an MJ600 until last week, I was running it through about 7 feet of 1/2" PVC and it was not a big enough pump, so I upgraded to the MJ1200 and I run the setup with the relay

Small top-off containers are hard on RO units. If you need to know more about this try calling thefilterguys and speak with them on the subject. Quick explaination:

I use a 5g bucket for top-off with a auto-top-off set up, when bucket becomes low top-off turns on pump in 55g drum filling 5g bucket once 55g drum drops to 15g left float valve turns on RO unit. RO units work best when running for longer periods of time, rather than on-off-on-off due to evaporation.

I'm not real familiar with float valves - how do you set up a float valve to only go on when the 55g drum hits 15g? I thought all float valves worked in such a way that they added a little liquid at a time - so it doesn't really matter what container size you use.

took mine off. the auto top of turned on and did not turn off one day. Salinity dropped a bit. Good thing i didn't have to much water in the 35 gallon drum. The drum was almost empty. Will try it again but using a 5 gallon bucket instead for the make up water.

I don't remember what type of top off i have but I was using a maxi 600 to pump.

i think i will go with ten gallon tank next to my sump, should be easy to fill it up once a week and go with jbj controller and maxi jet 600.
