What's everybody feeding their Melanurus Wrasse?

My Melanurus Wrasse is about 2-1/2" and I've hd him for about a month and a half. I QT'd him for about 3 weeks (no sand). He seams to eat Hikari 'S' pellets, but not very aggressively. He may peck at them when they're falling, but after they sit on the bottom and get soft he'll casually eat them. I've tried frozen mysis and he will peck them and sometimes spit them back out, but doesn't seam to take much. I've tried Prime Reef flakes and he won't even touch them.

I thought he was doing OK with the eatting and didn't want to stress him anymore without sand, so I moved him to my DT. I figured he was eatting and once he got into the DT and could bury himself at night he do fine. Well I added him and bam, the sixline and my pair of ocellarous clowns started on him. The male clown kept pecking him, but not as much as the sixline. This surprised me because I had a yellow corris wrasse in there recently and the sixline never even looked twice at it. It was also about 4", so maybe that's way, the sixline is about 2" - 2-1/2".

The Melanurus dove into the sand the first day and I didn't see him for a few days, then one morning he was out, so I threw in some mysis and he ate some. So, I guess it was good. But when the lights came on and the sixline would see him he would nail him. He disappeared for another few days, I thought he was gone. Then again he came out. This time he was beat up. His fins were all torn up and he had red marks on his body. I did manage to scoop him up in a net in his weakened state. He's back in QT, but he's still so picky with his eatting. He is looking much better and his fins and body are all healed.

I thought these guys were supposed to eat anything. So what should I try? Maybe some live blackworms? They are fast growings too, aren't they? I may wait until he gets bigger before I try to add him again. But, first I definitely need him eatting way better.

next time use a small tupperware or something close to that for sand-halichores wrases seem to get really stressed without it.

mine eats anything i put in the tank-took mine awhile to really chow down too. mysis is really good and we seem to feed about the same stuff.

i think hes just off food because of not having sand for 3 weeks, keep at it hell swing around

I have been feeding mine Formula 2 flake daily which he has been quite happy to gobble up, as well as a locally made food here in Kansas City called Reef Crack.

I can try the Formula 2 (green flakes), I have that. I didn't think he would want it since it's the one with more algae.

I tried the Formula 2 and no go. He doesn't seam to like flakes. So, for now it's just pellets, until I find something else to mix.

Looks like you just have a stressed out fish. My Melanurus eats anything that hits the water. Very aggressive eater, likes to bangs large pieces against the rock to break them up. Always first in the chow line.

He's slowly getting fatter, so I guess I'll just keep trying different foods until he eats more than just the pellets. Plus I just looked, and I've only had him a month. So, between switching tanks twice and getting bullied, he's probably stressed.

Mine eats anything, not picky at all. Pellets, algae strips, cyclopeeze, arcti pods, mysis and anything else.
