My Melanurus Wrasse is about 2-1/2" and I've hd him for about a month and a half. I QT'd him for about 3 weeks (no sand). He seams to eat Hikari 'S' pellets, but not very aggressively. He may peck at them when they're falling, but after they sit on the bottom and get soft he'll casually eat them. I've tried frozen mysis and he will peck them and sometimes spit them back out, but doesn't seam to take much. I've tried Prime Reef flakes and he won't even touch them.
I thought he was doing OK with the eatting and didn't want to stress him anymore without sand, so I moved him to my DT. I figured he was eatting and once he got into the DT and could bury himself at night he do fine. Well I added him and bam, the sixline and my pair of ocellarous clowns started on him. The male clown kept pecking him, but not as much as the sixline. This surprised me because I had a yellow corris wrasse in there recently and the sixline never even looked twice at it. It was also about 4", so maybe that's way, the sixline is about 2" - 2-1/2".
The Melanurus dove into the sand the first day and I didn't see him for a few days, then one morning he was out, so I threw in some mysis and he ate some. So, I guess it was good. But when the lights came on and the sixline would see him he would nail him. He disappeared for another few days, I thought he was gone. Then again he came out. This time he was beat up. His fins were all torn up and he had red marks on his body. I did manage to scoop him up in a net in his weakened state. He's back in QT, but he's still so picky with his eatting. He is looking much better and his fins and body are all healed.
I thought these guys were supposed to eat anything. So what should I try? Maybe some live blackworms? They are fast growings too, aren't they? I may wait until he gets bigger before I try to add him again. But, first I definitely need him eatting way better.
