What's going on?

I was thinking about the FWD only if it might be due to the parasites that cause "pinched mantle".
I think that I need to take it slower after the light changes. The light is now higher and the clam lower for a bit. He is already opened a bit more. I also added some live phytoplankton to boost him up a bit.

Pinched mantle is not caused by a parasite. It is a protozoan infection. The effects of pinched mantle do not typically happen that quickly, and also it is usually an area of the mantle not the whole thing
 
Hi jelwyoming, thanks for keeping us up to date. Feeding your clam photyo is a good idea. It will provide some nutrients to your calm while its mantel is still withdrawn. Can you post a picture?

Snprhed, pinches mantel is cause by a protozoan organism, like you mentino) but it is parasitizing the clam. Therefore it is a parasite ;)

a protoza is a parasite,and it will effect the whole mantle
 
The whole thing is just getting smaller and smaller. I have tried different lighting, direct feeding and nothing seems to help. I did water changes; Ammonia and Nitrite = 0 Nitrates = 0-3. I have run a cartridge filter with resin and charcoal to take anything else out. Nothing seems to help!
 
its not pinched mantle.is your ph,ca and alk in line? have you checked for pyram snails?how did you acclimate the clam.
 
My PH=8.35, CA=430, Alk=10,
I have not seen any snails on it, unless they are microscopic.
I did a 5 hour drip acclamation. I put it under half light, (4.8w/g) for the first 4 days and then up the light to 7.5w/g. After it showed futher recession, I moved it to the bottom of the tank, where it still is.
 
all i can say now is to keep the MH at least 12" to 14" above the tank and see if the clam starts to improve.
 
I sent pictures to the vendor. The responded today and said that it looks reasonably well for the short time and to just wait!! I don't like to wait when I see something not doing well, but I think that I've tried all that is reasonable.
 
did you send the pic in your gallery?
and they said it look's reasonably well?
what's there definition of reasonably well? not dead?

I would hold off,and try to not make any changes for at least a week.
 
You've got that right. Yes, it is the one in my gallery. Fortunately, it hasn't degraded any more than that for now. I wrote back again and told them I was not trying to get another if this wasn't dead, but wanted their advice...which was "just wait". I cannot think of anymore to do. I am beginning to think that maybe my nice little peppermint shrimp has gone rogue! Perhaps he is nipping at it at night. I also have a pistol shrimp, but I thinik he is too blind to ever find it.
