what's happening to deep reef?

From what Paul was saying is that they were downsizing the fish dept, not sure if that just meant freshwater and the SW would stay the same. either way ill miss Paul being there.

I made mention of that when I went out there at the end of October....this seems to be a problem that is escalating..how sad to see a quality store go so far down and have the livestock dying as a result. I hope the owner sees this post, or if he has to get out of business because they won't renew his lease, quit getting fish in if they are only going to die.

I was at Deep Reef last Sunday, the store can really use a fresh clean look. It's kinda dumpy with a lot of different ideas for store set up. As for the fish, they all seemed to be doing ok. Despite all the negative talk I did buy a beautiful mature Potters Angel. I usually don't buy anything there but I had to get him. The fish is doing well and I'm glad I got him.

As for Petland, the store looks fantastic. The salt section is a good size and not that far off from the old. A Reef Scene is the guy that will be in charge of that department. I have a feeling that the store will do well.

I just went there the other day too, it could definitely use a freshening up... there were electricians or someone working on the breakers, cause they would lose lights, then back on... then theyd go out again, then back on, etc...

I think they had 500 flame and potters angels in there, they mustve gotten a good deal on them in bulk.

The water just didnt seem "clean" almost had like a fog to it.... just not clear... maybe its all the acrylic that the fish are in getting cloudy or something ?? Maybe they could use new bulbs in that area... I dont know what it is, but I have to believe thats where a good chunk of their profit comes from, I would personally try to make that the nicest area of the store....

I wouldnt buy a mushroom rock from there if you paid me though... of the 29 pieces of mushroom rocks I counted, 18 of them had visible aipastia... :eek2:

I was in there a few days ago and the kid working there told me that the wrasse tank had a velvet sickness. Never heard of that.
Hope they get it together.

I just bought two fish from them a Blue Tang and a Hawiiain Wrasse. The Blue Tang is okay but the Wrasse died in 2 days.

I had a fish die from there before but I decided to give them another chance.

They are nice people but the quality of their livestock has become an issue and the fact that they will not do anything for you if the animal dies is just a poor business practice.

It's a shame beacuse this shop is not to far from my home and conveient but if the livestock is of poor quality what good does convenience do?

It sure would be nice for someone to open up a shop in the Naperville Area with reasonable pricing and good quality livestock.
