What's happening to this coral ?

I've had this carol in my show tank for about six months it is doing absolutely fantastic: color is royal blue , and all of a sudden I see this starting to happen at the bottom, I examined it very close for any type of bugs and I've seen nothing so why is this coral doing this everything else in the tank is absolutely fantastic.

That looks like an alk swing to me. Did this happen overnight or has it been slowly getting worse?

When I see alc spikes i "usually" see burnt tips. How is the flow around this coral?

Alk swings like previously said, also, lack of nutrients. I've seen it where my BP reactor pulled too much out and while most SPS were fine a few reacted similarly to this, STN base up.

Also, fwiw I see zero polyp extension between the affected piece and the one to the right, another sign of nutrient starvation.

I dose 2 part and ran out of calcium one time and the alk kept dosing. Spiked from 8 to 11 in a matter of a few days. I had a coral look like yours then the next day it was completely white I lost two corals that day the mother colony and the same frag all other corals were ok but weren't hapy

Good morning to everyone, okay here's the scoop I have a calcium reactor running 6 AM to 6 PM every day my calcium in the tank is between 400- 425 I have a Calc reactor that comes on when the PH is 8.10 pH runs between 815 and 820. 3 times a week I does 10 ML extra special Zeovit, every other day I does 10 ML's of reef life plankton, I make my water changes every 14 days about 30 gallons using H2O salt this is a red sea 650Tank,it's about 175 US gallons the magnesium levels are between 12 and 1250 I have a big diabolo skimmer,charcoal is changed every month circulation is provided by two MP-60 Plus the circulation from the tank. I don't think that's the problem. it really upsets me when I don't see polyp extension during the day. sometimes I come down in 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning with a flashlight And the polyps jumping out all over the place I just don't see them during the day, like I said before I take care of this tank like a newborn baby.it's got a be something else I'm doing wrong. I forgot to mention once are twice a week I add red sea colors A,B,C,D I don't understand, is there something I'm doing wrong? :facepalm:

That's wild acros for you. They are unpredictable. Six months and little to no encrusting at all is not a really good sign. There's a huge difference between thriving and simply not dying. If the rest of your acros look fine then it's not a chemistry issue but a typical response to captive life from the wild

Sometimes these happen unexplainable. Frag it if you still can might be able to save a piece.

Sounds like a nice setup, and your on top of everything. Anything can happen. I have lost corals for no reason too, I would frag it too, with no polyps out on others that would worry me too, but it has happened before seems like if I feed a lot they tend to not come out too much. Do you think something in the tank is picking at the corals?

I don't have anything in the tank that would bite at this coral, I guess am going to take it out and cut it up I hate to do that but I might be to save some of it everything else in my tank is doing great I guess SHitttttttt happens, I would like to thank everyone for their help it's really appreciated. i will let you know what happens. I am referring to aefw bite marks. You really can't see them as they are translucent.

I have had similar experiences with wild and maricultured. Maricultured are usually on rock plugs encrusting, so they seem to do better, wilds can appear fine and then boom.... no reason at all...
