Whats the difference between the 9005 and 9006?

Got tubes?
Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 9005 and 9006 skimmers?

Thanks,

Brandon

Very small differences, the main one is the pump, 9005 used the 9005.040 pump which was the older Turbelle style, the new 9006 uses the 9006 Turbelle ejet hydrofoamer. Both have unidirectional impellers and the older Turbelle had a mechanical clutch to get it going the right way and the new one uses an electronic system, this mainly improved the noise of the pump. Also, the 9006 comes with a magnet holder, 9005 had the old "erector set" rail holders.

A perfect 9005 is about the same as a 9006, the problem is the 9005 had a lot of small hand assembled parts and the noise varied as a result, as a general rule it was still quieter than at least 75% of our competition. The 9006 though, especially the newest ones we have been shipping for the last 6 months with the 3005.740 anti attenuation disk are about as quiet as a skimmer can get.

Nice. I think I'll give the 9005 a shot. Its going to be in an office tank so I need it quiet. :) I have a 9002 currently, but I'm upgrading tanks, so I'm going to go with a 9005.

Thank you very much for the replies!

Brandon

Just keep in mind if you will use a sump, the 9010 or 9011 is the better choice, by the time you buy the 9005.400 extension kit you are only about $30 away from the bigger skimmer which includes this sump use kit.
