What's the longest you have kept a starfish?

I bought this starfish about 6 years ago to feed my harlequin shrimp. Shrimp ended up dying and the starfish was happy in my sump, so I left him. I can't believe how big it's gotten over the past 6 years.

Just wondering what's the longest anyone has kept a starfish alive for in captivity? I don't feed it or do anything special, it just eats detritus from my sump and fuge.

What kind of starfish is it?

Pretty cool, some are super hardy and others like linkia's not so much from my past experiences.

Just a regular chocolate chip starfish. I bought like 4 when I got the harlequin shrimp, and I would rotate cutting off their legs. I kept all of them in my sump. The other 3 died within a few months. By the time the harlequin died, this guy had zero legs. He was able to grow them all back, and he seems super healthy now.

I have a sand sifting star fish which I added to the tank 18mos ago. Still alive and doing well. Only comes out at night.

I've been looking for some sump cleaner. Put couple damsel inside without feeding them specifically. these chocolate chip stars might be a good idea

I've had my serpent for over 10 years now. If I could take out my rock and show you how big he is you'd ****. He started off the size of a cd and his span could easily go around a basketball.

As for Linkia , I've only kept one for about 4 years. They never seem to last as long.

I had a brittle star for more than 12 years. When I broke down my corner tank, I transferred the star to the refugium of the sump in my new system since it ate all of the snails in the previous tank. Sadly, the star decided to climb over the divider and was mangled pretty badly in the return pump. It lived a few more months after this, but eventually died.

That's funny because my chocolate chip did the same exact thing. He was sucked into my Fluval SP6 pump. Ripped up half his body pretty bad, I thought for sure he would die. That happened about 4 years ago, and I've never found him in the return section of my sump again. Maybe just a coincidence, or maybe they aren't that stupid. Hahah
