Hi all just purchased this from Premium Aquatics this weekend how ever no body knew what it was. I would like to know so we can place it in a good spot. High light, Low Light, mean,Friendly, ect.ect. Any info would help. I cant get a good photo but in the tips of each branch there is a little hole. I think it is the same as the second photo I found on the internet with no description. Thanks for your help.

It looks similar to a sponge, although it is some sort of a hard coral. It has very, very tiny polyps when it is open. Color is Yellow. There is some tissue recession at the base. The image labeled 'yellow' is the closest thing we could find when searching online. Thanks.

The one labeled "yellow" looks like a tunicate and is not the same as the hard coral you are trying tog et identified

Yours looks like a porites as far as i can tell from the pic.

What do the polyps on the first one look like when open? I'd guess some kind of montipora digitata perhaps, or fire coral as stated before depending.

Looks similar to a new monti digi I picked up that needs to color up.

Thanks for all of your responses!

I agree the yellow photo looks like a tunicate. In researching porites, it does look like a long fingered porite. The texture and polyp type is the same. Thanks for the info.

--Its polyps are about 1/4 the size pf any montipora that I have seen. It is nearly smooth when polyps are extended. Looks somewhat similar to monti digit, but it seems much denser and stronger than monti.

--It does not have any sting to it. I believe fire corals do, don't they?

Thanks again for the comments!!

Fire coral doesnt have polyps. They have zooids and dactylzooids, which look like tiny clear hairs. Rule that one out, porites however can have tiny polyps. Its a porites, I still am baffled by the spongish thing though.

Yes, it's a Porites that came in on a Tonga shipment right after Christmas. It had some old recession that happened in the wild down at the base, but was very healthy when it arrived. Good luck with it, those yellow Porites can get extremely bright and very pretty in a tank. I was wondering who bought it when I noticed it was gone last week.

Thanks for the info. It's very pretty and will be well taken care of in it's new home. The wife has been all over the net to find the proper placement in the tank.
