Whats up with Frogspawn

To add some trates, try over feeding a little. I would even recommend passing on the water change this weekend. Sdont turn the skimmer off though.

I started dosing vinager to lower the nitrates a little, not to completely remove all nitrates. I did it more to lower it from the 20ppm because the big rock under the purple/green chalice was getting small strands of hair algea. I used to do water changes weekly and I actual had a nutrient poor system, so I stopped. To be honest(I don't recommend) I do a water change when ever I actual do maintence on the tank.(3-6 months) I dose the the weekly stuff every Sunday but no WC's.

Which test kits are you using to test your water? I would look into flow, alk swing, or not enough nitrates. I have niticed this before and find my frogspawn to be a little more inflated. I have a wall frogspawn on the sandbed in 300 par and I would say mod high flow and does good.

I use API test kits they are only 2 months old. After cycle was finishe dI had LFS test to kind of calibrate with safert and it all matched up. Alk was low at 7 so I slowly dosed bicarb (baking soda food grade) to raise it to 9 over the course of 2 weeks. Sounding like nitrates maybe my issue.

I will skip the w/c and run the skimmer and try target feeding this evening. All my other shrooms and GSP look amazing though. Even the green Rhodactis that hitch hiked in from LFS live rock is spliting on its own as we speak!

We have a hammer that thrives with 20 to 40 nitrates in our other tank. If everything else looks great, though, I'd hesitate to mess with parameters. I would try moving it first to slightly better flow and give it at least a week to see how it reacts.

I havent read the whole thread. Just your first post. Had same issue and just wanted to say have you checked your lighting? Are your bulbs getting old. That fixed mine

Bulbs have only be in use since begining of October so the are fairly new. But also thinking of adding a metal halide.

Thought I would give an update on the frogspawn. After a move to the bottom of the tank the frog sat there for two weeks no change. Since I have moved it up and down the tank I figured I would take my chances and let it sit. Whatever happens happens. This weekend after what I thought was a dying coral for sure it started to inflate again. Not full open but more than it has in weeks. It is starting to look a little happier than before. The tissue that was receding up the stalk seems to have stopped, The heads are now slowly inflating. Will wait and see what happens. I will try to post a picture tonight. I also found the salinity to be a bit low after getting a new hydrometer and gradually brought it up.

This was last week this time all heads didnt look good

this is today looking a little better

have you checked salinity with a calibrated device? still looks bad.
generally frogspawn can take a very wide variety of flow, from almost none to med-high.
they can be touchy with salinity....

oops, just read your last post after typing this^
i would bet it makes a recovery once salinity is stable...
get a refractometer, it's worth it...
$1000's of coral, spend the $40 on one....

I am making a trip this weekend an on the way home stopping at That Fish Place in lancaster to pick up a refactometer and the mag. test kit that my lfs says has been on back order for months now. I think they have to order more than 1 and dont want to get more than that in. (they are not salty type store). But the frogger is looking much better everyday!
