What's your fastest encruster?

Besides coralline, that is.

I want to cover my back glass with something, not too particular what, just want something that will get it done quickly. (Not xenia, or anything else likely to escape and take the tank over.)

GSP? Z/P's? Montipora? Clove polyps? Cyphastrea? Sympodium?

My sunset monti hands down. On top of that, it seems to win the battle with any coral it encounters...

Green star polyps, IMO, would be the fastest grower on the clean glass. I personally have never seen any SPS grow on the glass that wasn't already covered in coralline. GSP's are also probably the easiest coral to remove from the glass to help keep it under control.

yeah, it can become quite envasive.

Yup. Problem is, they will also encrust over LIVE SPS. Had one on a rock island. Had to chop off large chunks around the island every 2 weeks or so, as it would encrust even the substrate. Finally got tired of it and just took it out.

thats very true, also, imo its not the most attractive of the encrusters

Very true. It will cover everything in its path. I had it on an island and it covered everything. Now I have it on a small piece on the sand. I just trim it once it grows on the sand

I enjoy Papya Cloves on my sides and back glass, although I saw that you did not want xenia-like things and these are. My Purple Haze Monti and Green Monti Caps are fast growing and aggressively encrusting, but they don't encrust on glass like they do rock. I can "pop" them off and they are flat, which is great for fragging BTW.

My pink mille is only 2" tall but has a base that is probably 7" across. it'd be a perfect wall mounted tabling coral.

I have a sunset montipora that's a monster as well. Recently, it had no problem whatsoever mowing down a small Cladiella in my tank. It grew right over the top of it.

No idea. I have never seen it anywhere but I bought a rock with it on it years ago and have had it since. I have brown and green. The green is really nice

How would I get my green star polyps to grown on the back of my tank?

Set a frag right up too it. I put some on a small mag float and let it grow to the glass, slice around the parimutuel of the mag float and move it to a new spot. It works like a charm. The key is to creat little colonies that aren't too far apart that it wont take too long to grow together into one giant colony. Plus this way you can start it higher up away from your live rock.

The frag I got came on a small square flat base what about taking some water weld and stick it to the center if the back.

It would be harder to get that off in the long run. I agree with the magfloat method. Plus the smaller ones are so cheap anyway its worth it. I used mine with eggcrate and super glue and made a frag rack. The things are better used for stuff other than their function lol

Isn't it basically the same? I mean with the mag nothing is glued per say but the stuff will still cover the glass.. with my suggestion the only piece that may or may not be a pain to remove is the original glued frag otherwise its the same no? Water weld probably wouldn't be that hard to get off with a putty knife down the road...
