What's your favorite lens?

I think he is referring to a close-up kit. They don't actually magnify anything (that I can tell anyways) but they do allow you to get closer to your subject much closer than the "normal" minimal focusing distance. The problem is that your DOF becomes much more narrow so you really need a long exposure to get anything useful. They are cheap fun though at around $20 when I got a 58mm kit for my macro.

I would recommend a canon 60mm Macro USM 2.8 or the 100mm Macro 2.8

both are great lenses for aquarium closeup photography.

Bear in mind though, that even with one of these lenses it will take some time using post-processing programs to get some truely beautiful photographs.

If you are a little tighter on budget right now, maybe you can work with th kit lense (which btw can take some stellar shots in the hands of an experienced photography)

If you end up buying a macro, you should double up your rebate right now (by purchasing a battery grip). You can save quite a bit of money!

Hope that helps

Thanks. I've ordered the 100mm from B&H. I've been wanting to get a macro for a while but now the aquarium gives me an excuse. For PP I've got CS2 and am pretty farmiliar with it. Also I've already got a grip so I wont be able to double up the rebate.

You will love that lense. I use mine all the time, its hard for portraits because its so sharp, if the subject has a pimple it brings it out real nice from a 100 feet away. Its extremly sharp, and a great quality lense for $500 (or what ever it cost, i dont remember)

code:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Magnification = total extension length (mm) / focal length of lens (mm)

Been looking for this formula for 2 days. Sorry to Hijack the thread however I'm tryin to take some pics with very high magnification ratio,
The best I achieved till now was 68 mm with a 50mm 1.4 which makes it a 1.36to 1
then I took the shot with the 50mm reversed and Visually i would sasy i got around double the magnification? any ideas on the formula to calculate that with the lense reversed?
also any other formula to calculate 68 mm ext tube with a 105 macro withthe 50 mm reversed on it? shots will have to be taken in a light tent because of the severe loss of light I know that but what would be the magnification?
Thanks for any help.
