When they say small..they mean small! S. Gigantea attempt.

I would be careful not to blast it to hard when its mouth is open. You can see the flow I have on mine in this video. It's good, but gentle, flow.

ive adjusted and redirected a little bit to not make it soo indirect i would say its right where the 2 1600's flows meet and collide.. so it just is a combustion of flow.. but i made the flow a little less... since its mouth is still kinda opened.. the flow is a little more subtle now.

but.. i think i got one with a possible infection.. the only reason i think this.. is my Haddoni deflated last nite for the first time since acclimation when i got it.. and it didnt even deflate that bad during acclimation.. either something spooked it.. or it doesnt like the small S. Gig.. didnt open its mouth at all..
any feedback on this?

im gonna prep some water and do a water change here tonight..

About the water change. I would do a small one, in fact I always do one after I get a gig a few days later. It seems to help during the acclimation period. There might be some chemical warfare going on between the haddoni and gig.

heres wat it looks like this morning.

I honestly don't believe there is any allelopathy between haddoni and gigantea. I keep them together with no noticeable problems, and I've seen others do it as well. I've seen what I believe to be allelopathy between more distantly related anemone's, but never between these two species. An infectious microbe being passed from one to another is a totally different story.

To each their own, but when I have a new anemone that's showing signs of trouble, I do massive water changes. I'll do 90% and not think twice about it. If my well established anemones started showing signs of stress, after introducing a potentially ill anemone, I would be changing LOTS of water, and moving the sick anemone to a different tank, if I could. That's just me though. There's a thousand different ways of doing things.

i think this one took a turn for the worse...

=/ i give it till tonight..

i did a 50% water change.. and it seemed to help it for about 15-20 minutes was looking good, and then ... idk a complete 180... now the mouth is gaping... and insides are coming out... i dont see it getting better from this..

I also did large WC's when my Haddoni was showing signs of stress... I did weekly 50% changes, though I'm not sure if it was the WC's or the removal of the RBTA that led to its turnaround... Oh, I also changed out the GAC every week too... Good luck though!!! I'll be keeping an eye on your thread...

about an hour ago is when it did the 180... and started going downhill..

here is what it looks like right now

nah, i dont run any carbon in my tank... i know alot of people do.. and i know it is pretty beneficial.. and i probably should but i dont.. =/

What the reason for not running carbon? IMO, carbon is almost a must when you're keeping anemones especially if you have multiple ones and multiple species. These critter put out a lot of its own chemical and waste and you want to remove it as much as possible before it affect the others.

Reef1589 I wish I had more to offer you. I don't. I have seen giganteas in the condition that you are showing, and the prognosis is not good. I don't know why, but these anemones are really fickle when first placed in a tank. If lighting is good, and flow is good, it has to be something in the anemone (bacterial?) or something in the water. I have to say that doing nothing (at this point) will lead you to a dead anemone. I would consider water changes first before I would try treating with anti-bacterial agents (in a separate tank).

Sorry that I don't have more to offer you...

i really have no reasoning to why i dont have a carbon reactor hooked up, im not against it or anything, i just havent hooked one up.. probably poor reefing skills on my part, and i should hook one up here i was looking at the DIY ones seem simple enough..

i just did a water change, im not exactly doing nothing at all... im still trying =D im not gonna go down without a fight, but i myself dont wanna cause stress to it either from moving it or something.

run carbon passively till you get a rx and kneed it twice daily, changing it twice weekly and do 20% WC daily for a week - this will give best chance of recovery and not kill the rest of your tank if it goes pear shaped.

good luck.

Definitely ime, need to run carbon when you mix diff species. There may or may not be any allelopathy present (I haven't witnessed it between the stichodactyla nems when mixed but.....), carbon really helps if there is. Other than that and wc's, it doesn't look good now unfortunately :(. I have said it many times, getting a healthy gig from the get go is the half the battle.

Gosh not another Gig in bad shape. I mentioned this before and I cannot find it but I am searching for the anenome Qt procedure. Please help

i've removed it from the tank... (75g that is) ...

and set it up in a temporary 10g... where i will do 50% water changes daily as or more as needed.

its a fighter, its holding on... it's like its on a very thin line where it will either start going south really fast... or its gonna fight and pull through (or im just hopeful thinking) ... but it has yet to actually protude its insides... the mouth gets big from time to time.. but nothing comes out, it doesnt invert its stomach or anything...

the only thing keepin me a beleiver... is that is hasnt spit itself out yet.. but im probably just hopeful thinking.

edit *** almost forgot to post the pic
