When you Think of the World Class SPS Tanks You Have Seen... Salt

Curious to get the groups feedback on this. Think of the best SPS tanks you've ever seen, what salt was used?

now a days, all salts are good. almost all have all the needed elements, the concentrations differ, but in a growing SPS tank, it doesnt matter THAT much ... [BESIDES the salts with vitamines in them .... me no like them]

I have seen great SPS tanks with IO even ... and of course top of the line RBS as well.

it depends on alot of things ....

if you use IO, you will need to dose calcium and mg.
if you use RC, and your KH runs low like mine at 7 .... then you are limited on the percentage you can change water at a time, or might have to adjust dosing alk after.

if ure lazy like me, you try to use a salt that matches ure tank water, so I use TMPR and RBS ... which ever available at my LFS ...

so I am confident that all salts work. some require more time to increase some values, and you gotta be sure to do it in a ionically balanced way but it still works.

JMHO.

Someone once told me that even if you use the best salt but don't do water changes regularly, the big 3 will drop and then you will have to dose...

I guess if you have a huge tank, it's tough to do a weekly water change. I always thought the nice SPS tanks we drool about, their secret is dosing. I'd imagine if your tank is packed with SPS, they'll quickly suck up the CA/Alk right?

its not really a big secret ... lol

yes, SPS tanks consume alk and CA++ alot, and that needs to be dosed, I dose 24 times a day.

water changes, are like oil changes ... even trucks do it.

A lfs owner uses just coralife marine mix, you know the bucket that comes with a free t shirt lol his corals in display tanks and all are beautiful, and he sells them for cheap so that's what I've been always using. Though my corals don't look as good lol

Anyone here use Oceanic anymore?

I did for many years as a 50/50 mix with IO as they tended to balance each other out nicely. IO boosted the levels of their salt and I no longer need to do the 50/50 mix with Oceanic.
