Where can I find a timer for my lights?

Does wal-mart sell such a thing?

Also, how should I set my lights up, I have an anemone and three damsels.
My lights are the blue light and then the normal light. I really don't know the differences in the lights. The model of the light is PowerCompact by SeaLifeConcepts.

If you're going to keep anemones I don't think that they will fair to well under Power Compacts.
Here's yet another link to read, for lighting scroll down a bit and click on lighting:

What's the point of something extreme? What more does it do?
Ahh the question is what doesn't it do?:D it will control everything on your tank from turning on and off pumps to setting actual lighting periods to mimic the seasons (longer lighting in the summer, to promote spawning) it can control reactors, it monitors PH, temp, oxygen. It can even feed your fish while away. oh and not to mention you can control it remotely from a phone or computer anywhere in the world. It can also alert you via an email or test if something is wrong... the possibilties are endless!!

Like I said it's the extreme. But a must for some hobbyist with large tanks.

I read those a while back, and I just went back and searched but I didn't see them talking about anemones with the lighting anywhere. I have a 30 gallon tank and have used this tank off and on for 6 years and haven't ever changed the bulbs. What kind of lights would you suggest?

just go to your hardware store and get some timers that are 3 pronged. id keep your white lights for 8-10 hours depending if you have a lot of algae and your blue lights 10-12, before and after your white lights turn on making it seem like its going to night

theres nothing wrong with CF's you just cant have high matinence corals like SPS or clams. Many people have contraversies of anemones with CF's but ive heard more posotive experience with it and more negative opinions. Obviously its working for you and you like it so i would keep what your doing

The Coralife ones are known to start fires. There's some threads around here on them.

I picked up my timers (before I purchased a controller) from Wal-Mart:

So lets say I have two lights. White and Blue. How would you set it?

White Light from xx:xxam -xx:xxpm
Blue Light from xx:xxam - xx:xx pm

:)Oh sure take the cheap route:DThe problem with those is they don't keep acurate time. over the period of a month you can have the lights come on either way too early or way too late. It' just a hassel.

The thing is, I don't know if it's working good for me or not. I am really new to this. Like I said, my lights are about 6 years old and I don't even know if I should change the bulbs in them or even get new lights in general. I don't mind getting new bulbs.

Well let me ask you this. Are you planning on getting any corals or adding anything new to your tank? If not I would stick with the PC. Because they have been working this long for you. The only thing I would do is replace them with new ones. Your anemone would appreciate it.

you definitely need new bulbs... you normally change them twice a year. it is true that the timers dont always turn on but thats once in a while and its not that big of a deal.
do you have an algae bloom in your tank?

I have a 30 Gallon tank, you guys know a lot more about lights than me. Is there a such thing as a decent lighting setup for less than 150 bucks? If so, tell me what it is and I will order it. You guys know a lot more about this stuff than I do. I will put the PowerConcepts on the curb. As far as fish go, I plan on picking up a tang and hawkfish sometimes soon and getting rid of the damsels.

Oh, off topic question. It won't let me search right now so I will ask you guys. My sand bed has turned from fine sand into a lot of small shells as they have raised to the top. Should I stir my sand to bring that fine stuff to the top?

How deep is your sand? If it's less than 3 inches then stirring it up once in a while will help remove some detritus. As far as getting a tang for the 30g. There’s no way he'll be happy in that tank. They like lots of room to swim a 30 gal just won’t cut it.

Tangs require a much larger tank than you have and while hawkfish are personable and fun, they will wreak havoc on invertebrates, especially shrimp. These facts emphasize the necessity of researching your fish purchases before you buy. You should make a livestock plan and run it past the folks here on RC to discuss compatibility issues and size requirements. Depending on whether you have the added volume of a sump and/or refugium, a 30 gallon tank will only sustain a few fish.
