Does anyone know where you can get some really big clams? (like 10"+) I saw some at thatpetplace, but I can't find any online retailers.

I dont think I really big clam would look good in my 75g tank (or even fit!), but maybe it would.

Somthing Weird: At thatfishplace they had several sizes of clams, and they ALL cost the same amount, from the 3" to the 13". ($100)
TIA

Have you tried the reefcentral sponsors? There are a few clam vendors listed who could probably get what you're looking for.

Just a lil word of advice,,,be careful buying extra large clams,,,they ten to be extreamily hard to acclimate into a system,,,and alot less forgiving of change in habitat,,,smaller derasas, squamosas, maximas etc...will grow to desired size and beyond giving right condityions and tend to acclimate much easier.

Just a lil food for thought

ReefEze,
I will have to disagree with Lzysupplication. The last gigas I got acouple of months ago was 14 inches and I have NEVER had a problem with acclimating any of them. Speaking from experience the main reason you do not fine really large clams is because of the shipping cost. Example one 12 inch clam will take about 5 plus gallons of water (one gallon of saltwater is about 8 pounds) with the water, clam and packing you have about a 55 pound package. With rush overnight shipping right there you are at about $100.00 then there is the price of the clam and packaging and etc.

I did not say that it was impossible to do,,,just a bit more work involved in it. The one thing I have found in this hobby is that not everyone gets the same results. Not an exact science,,,I mean not everyone has problems with water chemistry,,not every so-called agressive fish out there is as mean as some have had experience with,,,,all i was saying is that from my personal experience,,,and not only me but a friend of mine who is a Marine Bio. in Myrtle Beach shows that alot of the time its harder to acclimate a larger clam then a younger smaller one and let it grow over time. Its a good thing youve had no problems.Perhaps one day with more research done with personal reekkeeping experience many more beautiful animals we keep will be better understood and able to substain in a captive enviroment. Anyhow was just trying to help hope you guys are doing well.

ok. I think If I get a big clam, I'll get it from thatpetplace, or maybe I'll give TopTank a call...

Thanks for your help
