Where do you buy jebao powerheads from?

shop around, prices change from time to time.

most ebay sellers are in California, so I would still get charged for tax. so I find the ones that are in California that doesn't charge sales tax or just find an out of state seller.

last time I ordered my jebao rw pump from amazon, this happened.

BTW, that video went viral a few months after that post. lol.

Ok I did it. I pulled the trigger and got a pair of rw-20 from Amazon. They were $85 each, like $5 cheaper each on eBay but I have Amazon prime so the 2 day shipping is worth that.

I'm so cheap you guys. I chickened out so many times before I finally bought them lol

I'll keep the other advice in mind, but for now I think I want to put the rest of the budget into a quiet return pump. The mag drive that came with my used setup is super solid but loud as hell compared to the submersible eheim I had on my old tank.

Thank you all very much for the help!

I always buy mine on Ebay cause it's cheaper and I don't have to pay sales tax like I do on Amazon. They guy I buy from on Ebay ships all his by 2 day priority and is almost always cheaper than Amazon anyways and I still get it in 2 days.

I just bought a DCT 4000 from him on a Monday and I received it Wednesday.

Well, they arrived 2 days after I ordered them, and they are going back tomorrow. Holy hell that is a lot of flow! Idk if it's because I have pretty minimal rock, or what, but even on the lowest they are way way too much. And cause I'm dumb and lazy, I pulled all the sunsuns out and left them in a bucket until I could get around to cleaning and putting away. So my poor fish are being blown all over by a single rw20, and I can't put the sunsuns back in cause they are covered in rotten blech. I cut up some coke bottles to put over my poor Duncan and bubble coral, until the rw15s come.

God bless Amazon prime free no-questions-asked returns :)

Hi all!

Was thinking about upgrading my powerheads to something slightly less cheapo. Do you guys just buy your jebaos off eBay/Amazon? I'm surprised to see that brs and md don't seem to stock them, given how popular they are in the hobby.

I usually see the best prices on Amazon!

It shouldn't be too much flow? Are these in your 120?

with DC pumps (WP, RW, DC), the lowest setting is 60% of max flow. For the newer type DC pumps (like cross flow and DCT) it is 70% of maximum flow. People make the mistake of buying the biggest pump thinking they can run it at 10% of maximum flow.

you pay for return shipping with amazon prime if you are returning because you don't like the product. for defective replacement, they will charge you for the replacement and refund you once they receive and verified the defective one, and they send you a return mailing label so you don't pay return shipping.

No, the lowest setting is 20%, at least that's what the manufacturer says. I can confirm that My JB wave takes them to 20%.

we are not talking about jbwave here.
The stock controller lowest setting is 60% and that is what the OP has.

you can control it by pwm and try what is the lowest duty cycle the pump will turn, and it will not be exactly the same for every pump in every application.

Back in the days when controllable tunze was still in, people controlling it with Neptune controller need to determine the lowest setting the pump will turn. True the general suggestion is 20%, but that is not guaranteed.

In regards to the Jebaos. The RW-8 description specifically says:

8 different flow rates from 180 to 2,100gph

180 from 2100 is not 60%, or are those rates innaccurate?

Edit:
Here's the manual and it states 30-100%?

On reefbreeders they say that these are adjustable from 525-5200 gph, but there's no way these are putting out 525 on the lowest. I've got 500 gph powerheads by koralia, and SunSun, both are far far less powerful. Idk, maybe they mean you can run them that low by choking the power with another controller?

I was messing with them last night and I dropped one on the floor of the tank. It blew water over the rim and onto the floor, no joke!

Yeah, it's my 120, I've got one at each end blowing toward center, behind the rocks, about 4" from the floor. The surface of the water is very turbulent, and if I had sand in the back of my tank... It wouldn't be there anymore lol

EDIT: I double checked the "manual" that came with the pumps, and it makes no mention of the %s. It's pretty funny though, I guess part of keeping the price down is not spending a lot on translation :p

It depends on the mode they are in with the stock controller how they tap into their range of flow.. I think with the stock, the minimum is about 40% if I remember correctly.

But yes, with the wave, you can take them all the way down.. Add to that, the latest firmware allows you to do a schedule, much like the vortechs on a wxm module. There are only 4 slots for your schedule per 24 hours, so you can't get as crazy as with the wxm, but, there is a lot of flexibility, since you can run all of the patterns on one program. So you have quite a bit of variety to do whatever you like.

I run the Windows version of the wave(2 of them), and I'm always buying from Amazon. Though, I need to replace one of my 8 pumps, and I will probably go with Logan from breeders, since he's always taken care of me with lighting..

I checked my notes for a couple years back when I reverse engineered the WP pumps for my DIY controller, and it goes down to 50%. (128 on 8 bit pwm). This is the exact value from the stock controller logic analyzer data capture.

perhaps the gph is not linear.

I am working on cross flow/ DCT pump diy controller now, and I know for a fact the lowest speed is 70%.

Great information, thanks very much.

I wasn't trying to argue with you or insinuate that you didn't know what you were talking about, I was asking genuinely.

How do you update the firmware?

I have a jebao PP-15 in my 75 gallon tank and I'm not sure where to place it. I'm new to the hobby and where ever I put it, it keeps blowing my sand around
