Where do you guys buy all those cool hoses?

I"m trying to do some plumbing and I see photos of people that have some hoses that look very flexible. The crap I use (see picture below) is very stiff, and it crimps itself very easily.. and if exposed to light it will get tons of alage growing inside...

What are my other options? I have access to Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc so I need to look in different departments?

I guess I'm looking for hoses that are much more flexible and wont crimp up...

I guess I'm not cool. I just use HD tubing. Mine doesn't seem to crimp that much, though. The lighting problem can be handled by using some of the insulating foam sold for plumbing, and will help prevent heat loss.

Depending on the application you could use PVC or spa flex (flexable PVC).

You can find spa flex readily at Home Depot and Lowes. Glue it the same way you would pvc.

This one is very flexible and do not crimp. The color also helps a bit with the algae.

Check the smaller mom and pop hardware stores. I find they have beter quality stuff and usually a better price.
I prefer supporting the local guy anyway. They go out of their way to help you.

Don't you need the reinforced stuff? I think it has white lines in it?

There are all sorts of grades of hose. The one you have there is about the lowest grade of hose you can have. Here in So Cal we have an agricultural supply store that carries all types of hose, from the one you have, to one you could drive a truck over and it wouldn't even notice... you know... the kind they pump oil with, or pump a septic tank with.

Anyway, like most other things in this hobby... you get what you pay for.

Like Drummereef mentioned, you can use spa flex. Bothl Lowes and Home Depot near me sell black vinyl tubing for use in ponds. No light = no algae.

Only if you are pumping at more than 20 psi (like form the basement to an upper floor)

I tend to use the fluval hose for my flexible hose needs. Check the link below. Works well for most applications and does not kink.

I have found that when I buy new hose off of the roll it wants to crimp like that when I try and straiten it out. The best way I've found to resolve that is to heat some water in a kettle and dump it down the hose. Straightens it right out.

I like using laguna corrugated pond tubing for most everything I can. it's kink proof, smooth on the inside, opaque, and i've never had a single issue with it. the one downside is, that unless you use the laguna hose barbs, which do cost a bit more than the regular ones, getting the hose on the barb is a ROYAL PITA, and gettign it off said brab is bloody impossible. It has to be cut off. The silve lining is that on all by the 1-1/2" monser hose i use to feed my retun pump, I don't need hose clamps anywhere else.

found fles pvc, spa flex, at my local HD store. It was in the pvc sectgion of the store.
They only had 1" pipe.
