Where have all the maximas gone????

It seems like within the last few years, those bright blue maximas that I was used to seeing all over the place are no longer available- all I see now are either gold teardrop maximas or some crocea's, very seldom does a nice squamosa ever come around anymore. Can anyone give me any info on what's become of them?

they've become amazingly expensive for most stores to get, a lot of the farms have been oversold, so that all of the new clams are smaller, and sold at a premium to save on operating costs for the farms that are running under full capacity

That is true, I work in a store and we havn't been offered a good price for maxima clams, they are all either 2" or smaller and cost just as much as some of the larger ones couple years back. We've been hesitant to order them.

yep but some LFS can get maxim all the time in good size and for a good price, but you will be looking at 100 + for a good one.

Alot of the Maxima's were either wild or farm raised from the Marshall Islands. I know a storm messed the operation in MI and they've had to reload. Alot of their stock is too small to sell and will take around a year to grow. You might see some nicer ones by the end of the year.

As far as all of the wild ones, the various countries they come from have been "clam"ping down and are not allowing them to be distributed.

If you're interested, I have a couple of clams available. Check out my home page.
