If you could go anywhere in the Caribbean for nice weekly vacation for sights on land and snorkling underwater . . . where would you go and why?

I'd stay at Atlantis. I've been there before and there was good snorkeling I also did a thing where u get to snorkel with sharks it was pretty cool lemme see if I can round up a pic of it.

Found the sharks one, It was pretty fun!!

Atlantis looks nice, but I kind of would like to go some place less people attraction. I know pretty much all places these days are becoming tourist attractions, but I would like to find a place that has a nice hotel on the beach and has a natural feeling around it . . . not huge buildings and things.

I don't know.

Thanks for your opinion, keep them comming!

Cozumel Island is a great get away. Sure, there are the tourists from the cruise ships, but if you're a diver, you're out on a boat or underwater discovering where God shows off while the biggest influx is in town.

We've been there 5 times, going on 6 this coming March. The Columbia Reef is magnificent.

Keep in mind, it might change a little... but I wont be diving just snorkling. I would like to do some out to reef tours but I really want to do off shore snorkles by myself.

Thanks for all input so far.

There are just soooo many islands and places to go and a lot of people on RC have been to different places so they like to say thier favorites.

Grand Cayman has been on my list since I went there 2 years ago.

I have good things of Bonaire and other islands south.

You wanna get off the beaten path?

Grenada...

My fiance is from there and i have been 3 times and im going back march 16-24 for spring break. Very few outsiders, generally pleasant people, quiet vacation type of place, food is great... Dont expect to get anything done on a sunday though - but that is typical of many caribbean islands...

i havent been diving there yet because i just got certified last spring but ill be going at least 3 times during my 7 day trip but i would assume the diving is decent... im sure its not indo-pacific diving but last time i went snorkeling off the coast of Grand Anse i saw 2 sea snakes, various hard and soft corals, TONS of urchins, and i must have picked up like 10 very large spiny lobsters just for fun... All this in a matter of 2 hours or so...

Just a suggestion...

Hmmm that sounds like a nice place.

Like I said, there are sooo many islands and so many people have gone to different ones so the feedback from eevryone just gets me nowhere- they all sound like great places.

I still have a year or two to do this, so I have time. But it would be nice to get it down to a couple islands and research them from there.

You cant go wrong with the Cayman Islands..More expensive then a lot of the Islands but worth it in my opinion .Unbelievable reefs...extremely clean Island and the Locals DO NOT bother you.

Try Puerto Rico, especially down by "Dead mans Island". It is on the south central part of the island. Awesome diving, plus it is a US Territory so i don't think you have to worry about the passport issues, I think????? Not quite to positive on the passport!! I am definately sure about the diving, hell, you could go to San Juan and snorkel right of the beach and see some great sites for less money too!!!!

We spent 2 weeks in Puerto Rico last June/July. We did lots of diving and the snorkeling was fantastic, as well. We spent 2 nights on Vieques and the snorkeling was great. If you go to Vieques, do not miss the Bioluminescent Bay trip. Make sure you go on a moonless night. It is magic to jump in the water, which feels like bathwater. You will feel like you are enveloped in fairy dust. It is truly magical. We are planning on going to Vieques and Culebra, a week on each island next year.

We went to Atlantis for a week, and among other things we took a great day trip with Powerboat Adventures. They take you out to an island where you feed wild iguana's...the kids loved that...and then to a private island for stingray petting & feeding, a cool shark feeding and some nice snorkeling. They even have a wild boar family living on the island. Sorry, no petting the sharks or the boar...although there was one guy there who waded out to chest deep water while they were chumming, apparently believing that he was somehow shark-bite-proof...fortunately, they called him back in before his theory was put to the test.

Oh, and they have lots of food, beer, drinks, beer, snacks and beer on the island...if that sort of thing is to your liking.

Hmmmm, an island that is unspoiled, not many tourists, yet truly beautiful, an undiscovered gem?

Well that island is Dominica!! Black sand beaches, 365 rivers, natural sulphur springs, there even is a aquaculture facility there.

My sister lives there and owns a restaurant. Her friend owns a hotel on the beach. haha The entire island is into eco tourism. Its called the Nature Island.
