Where to buy CUC

Has anybody ordered from Reefs2go.com? What did you think? They have some of the CUC for cheaper. Free shipping also, if over $150 ordered. PM me, please.

I wasn't impressed with my reefcleaners order either. If DFS is running a sale, they are pretty good and free shipping at $60. Retail prices are too high, though, IMO.

I think that is why we've always stuck to reeftopia... I haven't been dissatisfied with any of our group orders from there... JMO

Ditto....... I have only been disappointed with one order (out of 5 or 6 I have made) from reeftopia and it was because the small astreas (which are advertised as small ) weren't the size of normal astreas like they usually are:)

I think I have decided to order from Reefs2go. Anybody want to add something, go to the CUC tread that Dana started. Joel, the Astreas that you wanted are more expensive with these folks. I do not think I am going to order any. Several folks say they cannot turn themselves back over. I will post what I want in a day or two. We will order on Tuesday of next week. Pick up will be Friday of next week. I am off that day. So, I will get them at UPS. At least that is the plan now.

Astreas can't turn themselves back over very well on sand. I still kept them whne I had sand though.

Astreas are a classic component of the cleanup crew...astreas and blue legs.

I don't like astreas personally but it's just because I can't stand the thought of them starving to death because they can't right themselves once turned over. I was always checking the tank several times a day to see if I needed to turn any of them over. That's too much pressure and I don't have time.

Eddie, I think you just got punked! I've always assumed that was fake. There's no way you could catch a 6 foot shark with a little surf casting rod. If there is, I want to hear the story too. :clown:

Jeez Mel, you worry a lot about the possible suffering barely sentient creatures for a person who eats mammals reared expressly for that purpose. :hammer:

I was paranoid about astreas based on what I read, not out of sympathy (snails don't register for much on my moral compass), but because I didn't want to buy snails that just die or get their houses hijacked by hermits. Fishdoc recommended them, so I figured trying a few wouldn't hurt. Well, it's been >6 months and I haven't had to flip one yet...and I've seen them right themselves on sand... maybe I got the LE gymnast variety? None have been killed by hermits. They are also extremely active.

I can't say the same for Ceriths. They are worthless... $1.25 hermit shells. They just sit on the sand and do nothing except wait for the blue legs to come and eat them alive. :strooper:

i have seen asterinas right themselves too, but not to common. And there was always something nearby like a rock or something for them to grab on or they were not completely on there back. They do have alot of activity. They are classic parts of the CUC and I like them. Never worried really about looking several times a day to see if they fell or something. The snails that start with an N are cool too and fast. Only see them at feeding time and night.

Asterinas or Astreas? ;)

Nassarius (not nerites).

Hittin' the crack pipe a bit early today, aren't we?

If there is one thing you can say about Joel it is that he will never be caught “straddling the fence”. :D

Joel, I was going with - I do not need to spend money on snails that will soon die ( the little time I had some, they did turn over and die) and not only die but add to the bioload, not much for each snail of course, and grow more algae and need more snails.

The cerith snails are working in my tank now. They are $.39 to $.69 depending on how many and how big from the Reef2go place.
:)

Then make sure you don't buy the big Mexican turbo (AKA turban, Turbo fluctuosa) snails. They die quick in my experience due to being collected around Baja which has much colder water than our aquariums.

Yeah, those things die very quickly. I have 2 in my tank now that have been in there for 3 weeks now, but I plan on taking them to the CR soon. They helped fight the battle of the hair algae, but they had a draw.

The mexicans dont do well long term for you chris? ive had one for years now, hes the only snail I have in my system. Maybe its not a mexican...

It is generally the wild collected specimens that I think Chris is referring to... They are sensitive to temperature changes, and sometimes do not do well in warmer reef tanks... Those that have been at the CR and other LFS for a while are generally the ones that will make it, but you never know how long they have been in, and what kind of conditions they were kept in when ordering from an OFS... :)

Hijacked

Tell me the shark story. Did you catch it? Was it trying to get you?
?????

Totally missed this. Yes I did catch it and it's real;)
I even released it alive (ended up reviving it twice). It took about 20 minutes to land. Here is a pick of it still in the water just before I landed it:
