where to buy?

My tank is almost ready for my dwarf seahorses and was wondering where I should buy them. Ive been looking at a few sites, where have you guys bought from?

Mine are from ccritters, wild caught

If you are doing a sterile tank with hardier seahorses, you'll want to go with captive bred. Everyone on here recommends captive bred.

But ccritters has shipped seahorses to me twice right on time and healthy stock. So I have no complaints :)

Mated pairs don't matter with dwarfs (though you experts correct me if I'm wrong) because dwarfs are not monogamous and pair up really easily.

I do like that they are sexed though :) That way I know I am getting x femals, x males.

Mated pairs of any species of seahorses are a waste of money. Any place that offer that to you is looking to line their pockets. IMHO!

Seahorse Source for sure. Top quality stock that ISN'T overpriced, plus information source that is unbelievable and free.

I ordered some enrichment from Seahorse Source and the next day they called to confirm my order and I thought that was pretty good. Is seahorse source TR or WC?

Seahorse source horses are all TRUE CAPTIVE BRED seahorses. Order from them. In the long run, you will end up saving money and be much happier with the quality of your horses. Dan and Abbie are wonderful people. They not only sell you the best horses there are but they offer outstanding customer service.

I would not buy tank raised when I can buy true captive bred seahorses.
I guess it is confusing as there is no definitive naming that can ease that confusion.
After wild caught, offshore seahorses were being produced in large net pen operations in the ocean.
Following that came tank raised. The naming I think came from the fact that the seahorses were now being raised on land but in very large round cement vats or tanks. Unfortunately as I see it, they are still raised in water taken from the ocean and contains the same pathogens as wild caught seahorses have.
These culture facilities produce mainly for the medicine trade and as such, treating the ocean water properly is not economically viable. Only a small portion of what is cultured is siphoned off for the hobby.
True captive bred IMO, are seahorses raised in captivity, but the water is either made from commercial salt mixes, or, from ocean water that is sufficiently filtered and treated to take care of the pathogens in that ocean water.

Do some research into CCritter or any other sellers of WC dwarfs. Ask them how is it possible to sell them at the price they are offering it for? Deworming along takes 9weeks.

they shipped to you twice? Do you still have any from the first order or was the second order to replace the first order?

Oh yeah I have everyone from both orders except for one that died because of a freak accident on my part (I didn't realize it was clinging on my hand when I took my hand out of the tank)

I got 6 for a 5 gallon at first, but there weren't enough for the size of the tank (and brine was going to waste) so I ordered 6 more and it's much better now.

I picked up some wild caught Dwarfs and pipefish from ccritters. I have ordered other stuff from him as well and always been very happy. The Cosmocampus hildebrandi pipefish are great and work very well with dwarfs and sexy shrimp.

Thank you all. Ill do some research on wild caught and captive bred dwarves. I always thought buying captive bred was the way to go.
