Where to find methylene blue locally?

Coral Killer
Does anyone know if any of the big chains or a LFS in the area carries this product? I need it tomorrow and can't travel too far to get it. I live just west of the Elgin area.

LOL - My basement fishroom does look like some sort of drug lab!

I believe it's for preventing fungus growth.

Most LFS should carry this that carry freshwater fish. I know coral reef in Norridge has it but thats out of your way. I used to used this stuff to prevent fungus growth on angel fish and discus eggs. Good stuff but stains the silcone blue forever.

I'm pretty sure I have a bottle from my freshwater days. But, well, I'm in Oak Park. Work in Lisle, will be there tomorrow around noon-ish.

I believe you can get it at most large chains, that's where I got it. Some think it is a cure against ich... what isn't?

Thanks, I had checked on the Petco website before asking and did not see it. I will check in person tonight!

PSP also almost always has it. As I said, I have some if you need it you can pick up in Lisle tomorrow.

Thank you for the offer, but that's a bit far for me to drive when I need it tomorrow.

I already checked PetsMart and Petco tonight and no luck ...

I've bought it at both PetCo and PetSmart, but under some sort of brand name. Did you check the ingredients on bottles? I am not totally sure if interchangable, but malachite green is used for the same reasons as methylene blue... are you using for fungicide?

I saw that a couple of the fungus products had Malachite Green in them, but I was looking specifically for the methylene blue that was recommended to me. I might have to pick it up online for future usage.

The Aquarium Guys carry it. I would suggest using as a dip rather than adding to your main tank - never used it in reef situation, but in FW will KILL all nitrifying bacs. Are you using to treat fungus?

It's strictly for keeping fungus off of fish eggs in a separate holding tank and not for use in the reef tank.

Eggs? Yes, you want methylene blue. Make sure it's for aquarium usage.

Thanks for the input!

Yeah, malachite green and methylene blue are used somewhat interchangeably for external fungus treatments, but as far as I know, you DO NOT want to use malachite green on fish eggs, only methylene blue. Good luck! What are you hatching?
