where to get gigantea anemone?

I've only had one fish survive being stung by a haddoni, and that was an ocellaris. A fish being injected with the venom of an anemone is like a small mammal being bitten by a rattlesnake. The odds of surviving the envenomation is pretty slim.

sigh. would a gigantea run a high risk of killing and eating fish? i never had a fish get eaten with a RBTA. since I have saddlebacks, should i just get a LTA?

Sorry to hear about your wrasse, it was beautiful. I am no expert on gigs but I bought an 18" S. Gigantea 10 days ago and will share my experience so far. I have a 90g tank and for fish I have one maroon clownfish, a foxface, sailfin goby, yellow tang, six line wrasse and a lawnmower blenny. The foxface has brushed up against the nem numerous times (daily) and the nem holds on for a split second and lets go, my tang also chases food into the nem and digs around under it with no problems. I have only spot fed the nem twice and I am sure he is still adjusting to my tank but I have had no loss yet but it is still scary. My maroon clown is not hosting it, he's busy hosting my green star polyp colony.

The nem has not moved from the spot I placed him which is good and none of my corals seem bothered. I have two staghorns, taro tree, cynarina, star polyps, button polyps, chili coral, mushrooms and 8 small bta's.

Not trying to persuade you either way, just sharing my very limited experience.

I see you are in NYC.

Take a ride up Rt. 95 to House of Fins in Greenwich CT.
Was there earlier today, and they have an incredible blue gigantea carpet anemone
available. If you can go there tomorrow, they're having a big sale (20-30% off- I think).

Call first, to be sure it's still there.

Good luck !

One thing to remember, a Gig is more likely to want to be on the rocks -- as opposed to the sandbed for an Haddoni. (( In addition to Gig's being harder to find/keep )).

LTAs (( M doreensis )) are sand dwelling, a bit sensitive to flow, can be a bit easier to keep (( assuming you find a healthy one )), and aren't known as fish eaters.

thanks todd. i am thinking of placing a gig in the far left corner of the tank. right now, im thinking of either a gigantea or a purple sebae (i believe only malus are purple).

is chasedasea's experience the same with other ppl with giganteas?

I'm looking to get another gig after having 1 a few years ago does anyone know of any reputable vendors to buy a healthy gig old thread coming back to life

You can try Bob at IBLUEWATER . I just purchased a few magnifica nems from him all were sticky and healthy in the bag .

It is not easy to find a healthy Gigantea. Just have to be lucky. Dull color ones show up once in a while anywhere. Bright color ones, due to cost, only carry by high end good reef store.

So it will run me acouple of Benjamin's I have had good luck with them in the past hopeing it will be the same this go around I will check out ibluewater

I had good luck, several really nice anemones, with Aquatic Collection in Hayward CA. He had high end stuff in often. I am sure he can order one for you. Keep in mind that Gigantea is essentially impossible to get healthy. Be ready to treat him with antibiotic if you don't want to waste several hundred and end up wit nothing.

Aquatic Collection didn't get any for a while.
You usually get tan ones from LiveAquaria.
In any case you need to get Cipro first to be able to treat if needed.
