I have a 140 gal system and am interested in either the Mini Bk 180 or the new alpha 170. Which would be better for my system? I have a fairly heavy bioload and would take the mini but wonder if the alpha might perform better.
How much sump space do you have to work with? If you are tight on space then I would go with the Mini, however if that's not an issue then the Alpha 170 would be my choice.
The BK mini is the way you will want to go. You cant say how the other alpha cones are going to perform because they are not out yet. With that type of money being invested I would want to go with a sure thing. The BK mini's are anything but mini skimmers. They are built like a tank and have to be about one of the easiest skimmers to clean on the market. From my experience if your budget allows the bk mini gen 2 180, then that is the way I would go. No doubt in my mind about that one.
Yes there is. You want to go with the Gen 2 version. If it's a 160, there's not a whole lot of difference, but the 180's and 200's will see a performance gain.
