Which clams?

I have a 125 with 2 250 10k MH, 1 150 watt 5.5k MH, and 2 110 watt actinics. Tank has been set up for 1 year with 250 lbs LR and 125 lbs. of Live sand. My question is what type of clams would do well in this system? What are the least diffficult calms to maintain? Do I need to culture phyto for them or will what I feed the tank be enuf? Thanks in advance.

The easiest clam to care for would probably be the Hippos, Derasa & Squamosa, but with your lighting, (125g is not too deep) you should have no problems with either the Maxima or Crocea species. If you purchase clams that are 3" or larger, you do not need to feed them as often. most of their food source will be converted from their intake of the necessary lighting. I do still feed my clams twice a week though with a live phytoplankton product, but many successful clam keepers with larger clams never feed their clams and they do well and grow fast. You can culture phyto or just buy it in a bottle.
What you need to also do is to check your parameters in regards to calcium and alkalinity. You should be in the 420-450 range for Ca and 8-10 KH for alk. Minimal nitrates & phosphates and I assume your ammonia & nitrites are undetectable.

All parameters are as you listed or better (Ca-470 on my test kit). Just bought a 5" Derasa that looked good from a local dealer for $70. I thought pretty good deal. Thanks!

Your Derasa is a substrate dweller. He might attach to a rock still (if that is your location choice) but as he grows larger, he'll most likely detach and end up on the bottom substrate.
5" @ $70 from a retail LFS is a good price. Good luck with him.
