Chuck, not at all, at least in my case I have 3 power bars if one breaks I still have the other two that I can easily transfer vital plugs programing into any of the other bars, all bars are capable of reading ph-temperature-level-orp etc etc etc so in case of emergency you can disconnect the USB probes and just relocated them into any of the other power bats, I guess my point is that with this unit your chances of being out of a controller are less likely

The unit is sold in kits that come with atleast one powerbar and different add ons depending on the kit. Aquarium Specialty i belive is the new distributor and Aquatronica has its own forum here on RC so you can take a look and ask any questions there.

OK - I don't get it. The aquatronica has the programming in the power bars so they can continue if the controller goes out.

But what happens if a power bar goes out?

Seems to me to be six of one and half a dozen of the other.

I guess I did not expressed my self right, the programing is stored in both Power bars and controller unit, each can work independently regardless of which one breaks

My homework led me to buy the apex a week ago. Still getting it going but it seems idiot proof so far. I have not entered the web world yet, still attached by a wire. I beleive it will run a ca reactor and you dont need the ph controller seperate. If you want to buy one i have a reef fanatic ph contoller (thought I saw you looking for one?). I switched the reactor off and am running two part and kalk via the apex and drew dosers, it runs 3 seperate lights,2 pumps=thats 8 and now I need to buy another power bar for another 8 outlets. Sure hope the thing doesnt have a bad day! Can I buy insurance? Or is that why we buy reliability for 50 bucks more. Good luck doing your homework. Determine your needs first, many times mechanical timers can get the job done. Sometimes its just a new cool toy! Saw you leaving treeman the other day. Is his stuff doing ok?

if u want to save some money apex is the right way,my apex comtrolls my CR,Kalk R,Heaters,4 MH, 2 VHO,moon lights,PH,temperature, chiller, main pump. I dont have anything alse in this tank :) I love my apex........

Ok so I'm looking at the Apex now but wondering if they have a feature that I found nice with ReefKeeper. That is, If you buy the peripherals and cables and what not for the Reefkeeper lite, they still work if you upgrade to the Elite. Just wondering if the same applies to the Apex if they come out with a bigger and better model next year.

Does the Apex come with Aquanotes? Or do you still need to buy it? I'm debating upgrading to the Apex from my ACjr for the wireless capability. An being able to run multiple tanks from one controller. I like being able to program just about everything with the IF statements. But I am curious how Reef Keeper is programed.

Roger if each can work independently of each other and each can do everything then why do you need more than one. That seems silly buy three things that do the job that one of them can do. Seems like wasting money if you ask me. Are you sure apple doesn't make these? lol

Marke saw your post on the controller. Is this your first controller or did you have one before? Let us know what you think of it in a few weeks.

Well when u have upwards of 20 plugs to use in a tank then u need multiple powerbars. Sorry but that is my take on the question as well as many other of our aquatronica users.
